Top 10 RPG games for medium PCs. The best RPGs of all time

The genre has been the so-called “cornerstone” of the gaming industry for several years now.

Long before shooters and strategy games, game developers copied their board games, creating worlds full of wizards, orcs, and all sorts of dungeons. Those games were built on the basis of their tabletop counterparts, but RPGs subsequently gained serious popularity, and therefore their element spread to other games.

When it comes time to compile a list of the best, the first question, of course, is what is considered “the best”? As a result, you have to rely on which RPGs are interesting here and now - which ones you can still play and enjoy the process. The influence of the game on the masses does not fall out of the scope of the criteria, but does not occupy the main position.

With the RPG genre it’s even more complicated - after all, each game is unique in its own way and at the same time it’s also a role-playing game, and this all very much depends on everyone’s personal preferences. Therefore, in this top we tried to cover only those RPGs that can rightfully be considered “canonical”, in which the emphasis is placed specifically on history, those in which you can acquire a character that can be customized through experience points, inventory and the outcome of dialogues, those that include the construction relationships with NPCs and associates. Perhaps with minor exceptions.

How easy it is to spend a day, a weekend - whatever, months - in a magnificent worldSkyrim . Like its predecessors in the series, the game provides massive scope for exploration and adventure - not to mention quests, characters and treasures. Given the gaming community's love forSkyrim - from the mods to the soundtrack, they're sure to love the journey ahead of them. And the “open” question of the ending and the variety of options for passing allow you to create a lot of different characters - which guarantees the “replayability” of the game. Which undoubtedly makes it worthy of the "Best ofRPGgames."

As inBaldur's Gate , events unfold in the universeDungeons & Dragons , but, nevertheless, in completely different colors. The player will play as an immortal person who has already lived many lives - but does not remember them. And his task is to restore lost memory using the city of Sigil, which contains doors to all parts of the Universe. What makes thisRPGThe best - as well as unique and “canonical” - is the ability to resolve most issues through dialogues rather than battles. So if you need something fresh - relatively, of course - then this is what you need.

Yes, breaks the classicsRPGbecause in order to pass it you don’t have to “pump up” to a certain level. But only if you are really good and understand all the nuances of the system - that crafting is important, that certain items can only be found by completing certain ornate quests. Within the genre where the system is king and god,the obvious winner because he's allwnal system about systems. Just studying how each stat affects a character's build is a process deeper than anythingD&D , but no less worthwhile. This is exactly what gives easily break into the list of the bestRPGgames.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4;
  • Year of release: 2015;
  • Developer: CD Projekt RED.

Many RPGs tell the story of a lonely, wandering traveler, but few manage it with such artistry as the developerWitcher 3 . This artistry is manifested, first of all, in the setting itself, in these bright sunsets and sunrises, these winds disturbing the leaves of the trees - so that you want to walk every path, and not use quick jumps around the map. But the real strength of this game is in the quests involving NPCs - in a way that makes the entire gameplay experience more "human". Such quests act as a navigator in matters of morality and are not replete with obvious answer options.

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

  • Platforms: PC;
  • Year of release: 2000;
  • Developer: BioWare.

Baldur's Gate II

If originalBaldur's Gate provided a dizzying territory for exploration, then in the second part they added a focus. The territories are still huge, but now there is a purpose and purpose - which is great for motivating without sacrificing personalization. This game, which was included in the list of "BestRPGgames" is not accidental, it is not only one of the largest among its relatives, but also quite detailed and deep. This did not bypass the gameplay - a team of six characters under the control of the systemD&D leaves a lot of room for maneuver and tactics in each battle.Baldur's Gate one of those (relatively few) role-playing experiences that are difficult to compare with anything else.

If you ask the fansStar Wars Obtheir favorite story within the universe, then many will undoubtedly call the trilogy the bestKnights of the Old Republic . Events in the game createdBioWare , take place thousands of years before the events of the original trilogy. Even then, there were battles between the Sith and the Jedi - and here the main character appears. As the game progresses, the player will visit places hitherto unknown - like the Wookiee homeworld or the Jedi Academy. And all this in the process of making decisions that will lead either to Svetlatyu, or to the Dark Side force. What's not to love? Are they really the best?RPGCan games do without it?

Although Fallout 3 was quite successful - it is a completely different beast compared to the classics. The action is returned to the West and filled with elements of reputation and faction struggle. The game reaches a slightly different level - and becomes a game not about good and bad, but about who is worth trusting. It also has classic humor for the series - it's hard not to love a game in which you are given a nuclear grenade launcher. There are also many mods available for the game, including from the developers themselves. But my favorite thing isand what secures her place on the list of “BestRPGgames"it's having the good old spiritFallout , which we all love so much.

The creatures of darkness are fiends that bring the world to the brink of destruction and this requires our attention, even though most of them look like faceless puppets. Loneliness is a defining feature of the debut gameIrrational Games . Can you hearbaudio logs of remarkable personalities who are involved in the fight against bio-terrorist creatures. But you won't meet these people - because they lost. Loneliness is the key because will try to take everything from you. Something used on the droid may be a necessary element for completing the next section - so you need to think twice. But the biggest thing that the game takes to the core is hope. Developers specify games where the environment is the main character himself. This, at a minimum, makes it stand out from others.RPG.

Do you want to rush into the thick of battles or quietly flank them? Or hack a couple of terminals and get droid reinforcements? Or maybe talk to that security guard and persuade his group to take a lunch break? in the world There is so much freedom that the choices seem endless. Although the game is similar to a shooter - it has enough elementsRPG,to be considered the last one. For example, if you take a pistol, the use of which has not been upgraded, there is a greater chance that you will miss. And even the weapon itself can be modified and “grow” in levels, which can turn an ordinary cheap pistol into a weapon of mass destruction.

Few are even the best RPG The games on this list have an unwaveringly open world. And a severe inability to forgive mistakes. Many people simply make a “wrong turn” on their first playthrough - and instead of the city they fall into the clutches of monsters whose level is much higher than their own. The lesson is tough, but learned. Sounds like loves to punish, but this is her charm - her way of introducing herself to the world. The enemy's level does not grow evenly with yours, and in general you should look around and listen carefully to the NPCs to understand what to do and where to go. You still have to fight with inconvenient controls - but the beautiful world of this opens upRPGworth it.

The RPG genre occupies far from the last place in the gaming industry and is a direct competitor to the shooter genre. Such games, as a rule, are distinguished by a deep study of the universe in which the action takes place, many charismatic characters and a non-linear plot. Thanks to new development technologies, RPGs of recent years are famous for their decent graphics, often setting new quality standards for games in other genres. In this article we present best RPG games on PC in recent years.

10. Divinity: Original Sin

Divinity: Original Sin opens the ranking of the best RPGs on PC. This game is a prequel to Divine Divinity. The release date was constantly postponed due to work on a large number of localizations. Funds for development were received from the Kickstarter site, where the project was also advertised. The player controls two characters, whose appearance and gender can be chosen independently. As a result of travel, their relationship can become romantic or affectionate, depending on the compatibility of their characters. The developers also managed to implement an interesting crafting system. For example, to get a spear, you need to combine a knife with a broom. Another feature was the interactivity of the environment - from some objects it is enough to simply build a real barricade and block the passage of opponents in order to gain an advantage in the battle.

9. Darksiders 2

Darksiders 2 ranks 9th in the list of best RPG games on PC. In this game, the gamer will have to take control of one of the horsemen of the Apocalypse - Death, and go to save his brother War, who is imprisoned. The game world has doubled in size compared to the previous part, while the events of the plot occur in parallel. The gameplay is a mixture of slasher and action RPG. The balance has also been thoroughly reworked to fully match the combat tactics of Death, who prefers to strike before the enemy begins to swing. The RPG system is implemented well, the player can collect different combinations of weapons and armor, as well as learn skills that help in battle.

8. Diablo 3

Diablo 3 ranked 8th among the best games in the RPG genre. At one time, the game Diablo became a real hit and was able to keep players in front of their computer screens for days on end. The events of the game take place several decades after Diablo 2. The world has become even darker and more dangerous, monsters are crawling out of all the cracks and the player will have to deal with it all. The developers have radically changed all available character classes and attached randomly generated tasks to them, unique for each hero. Interestingly, just a day after the official release, just under 4 million copies were sold.

7. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Bethesda was able to please its fans and create a real masterpiece among RPG games. Compared to the third part in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion The graphics were seriously improved, realistic physics appeared, quests became more complicated and much more. The plot is replete with sharp turns and has dynamics. But most importantly, the main feature of the series has been preserved - no one forces the player to follow only the outline of the plot. After training, the developers throw the gamer near the sewers of the Imperial City and directly send them on a quest for adventure, which is quite easy to find in this world. Atmospheric locations and professional Russian voice acting allow you to immerse yourself in Cyrodiil and get great pleasure from the game.

6. Dragon Age: Inquisition

Dragon Age: Inquisition is a good role-playing game on PC, which is also worth playing for fans of the genre. In the third part, the player will have to revive the Inquisition to confront the demons pushing from the Shadow. Now gamers can independently determine not only the appearance, voice and character of their hero, but also their race. The gameplay was greatly changed, some of its features were generally copied from the game Mass Effect 3, which added some variety to the gameplay.

5. Fallout 4

Fallout 4- another part of the popular RPG from Bethesda studio, which was expected with great hope by hundreds of fans around the world. Now the player can lead his own settlement, collect resources and rebuild buildings. The apocalyptic world has become even more fascinating and interesting to explore. Hostile groups are fighting on its territory, and you can join them. Various innovations and a well-thought-out game world allow the player to spend a long time in this post-apocalyptic world of nuclear wasteland.

4.Mass Effect 3

In 4th place in the top ten RPGs on PC Mass Effect 3. In the third part, Captain Shepard will again have to fight off the attack of the Reapers who attacked the Galaxy. At the same time, he will have to enlist the support of all intelligent races, including the geth. Naturally, the gamer will have to resolve many petty conflicts before the aliens see the full scale of the threat and agree to help. The ending of the game caused particular controversy among critics and players, due to the weak motivation of the hero and some logical inconsistencies. Nevertheless, the game turned out to be very decent and colorful.

3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim opens the top three RPG games on PC. Immediately upon release, Skyrim was "doomed to success." The main plot revolves around the confrontation between the Empire and the rebel Stormcloaks. The conflict itself began due to the sudden death of the High King of Skyrim, as a result of which the province found itself on the brink of war. The player can support either side, leading to different endings. However, according to prophecies, gamers will have to fight awakening dragons in any case. The game world turned out to be quite lively - now NPCs can go about their business even during dialogues with the hero, for example, cooking or dining. The atmosphere of the far north is perfectly felt throughout the entire plot, especially thanks to the recently released remastering, which brought the already excellent graphics to a new level.

2. Dark Souls 3

The whole series Dark Souls Known for being unfriendly to newcomers. In order to move further from the spawn point through the locations, the gamer will have to actually memorize the movements of the opponents, since almost any of them can carry out a fatal series of blows, after which the player is unlikely to get up. Another feature of the game is the complete absence of the history of the universe, but this is only at first glance. In fact, all the information is in the description of the items, so there is an additional point in picking up the next “key to the dungeon”, opening the inventory and reading a little. Hints can also be found in character dialogues, which are located in different places. The gloomy atmosphere of gothic fantasy clearly creates the feeling of a slowly dying world, which, along with the complexity of the passage, makes Dark Souls 3 one of the best RPGs at the moment.

1. The Witcher 3

It deservesly takes 1st place in the ranking of the top 10 best RPGs on PC The Witcher 3 from the Polish studio CD Projekt RED. Thanks to active advertising and a responsible approach to creating the game, the Poles managed to make a strong RPG with a well-thought-out combat system, a strong plot and interesting additional tasks, each of which is a small independent story with different ending options. The main character remains the well-known witcher Geralt of Rivia. A distinctive feature of this universe is the instability of good and bad characters. A former enemy can become a friend and vice versa, depending on the actions of the player and the decisions he makes. Graphic performance is at a high level, which causes an additional influx of players who value realistic images. All this allows us to call The Witcher 3 the best role-playing game, and it is likely that it will be able to hold this title for many more years.

Features of RPG games

A huge unknown area full of enemies, neutral characters, interesting places, remarkable things and new information is a big part of what attracts players to role-playing games.

Also important in the genre are the presence of consequences from the actions of the hero and the branching of the plot, when the avatar has to reap the fruits of his decisions.

Freedom of action and the ability to choose from several options, joining various clans, guilds and communities makes the path of each game character unique.

And virtually no role-playing game is complete without a variety of skills, including combat ones, ways to solve a problem in several ways, an enticing branched plot and inventory.

The Elder Scrolls

The history of the series began in 1994. The plot takes place in the vastness of the fictional Tamriel, where gamers have access to various areas of it in each of the games.

In addition to the obvious world, there is also Oblivion - the other world is present.

An incredible bestiary, much of which can't be found anywhere else, makes TES the world's most monster-filled game.

The ability to quickly move between known places saves a lot of effort and time, just like riding a horse.

Arena gave rise to a series where it was necessary to free the emperor from the world of Navi. Daggerfall continued the tradition of saving the world, without changing it until Skyrim itself.

Morrowind It was distinguished by not necessarily completing story quests, interrupting the narrative due to the death of key characters, and continuing gameplay after the murder of the main antagonist.

IN Oblivion a new world appeared - Oblivion, where several dozen gates were open, and the main character - the prisoner - had to close them by transferring the amulet of the murdered emperor to his heir.

Skyrim pleased with new skills and the appearance of dragons in the province.

The latest installments in the series have won countless awards and critical acclaim.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

A Bioware creation based on the Star Wars universe screened by George Lucas almost 40 centuries before the events in the films.

The plot tells of a bloody war between the humanoid Sith and the Jedi.

The only living disciple of the dark lord gathered an army of puppets from the Sith race and directed their military might to a galaxy unprepared for war.

The Jedi were confused and scattered, and some of them went over to the side of the enemy. However, a small fleet off the planet Taris holds off the Sith onslaught.

The task of his fighters is to find a Jedi girl who knows combat meditation. Her psychic skills could be the key to saving civilization.

The hero is constantly on the line between evil and good, and every decision forces him to step over the border in one direction or another.

At first, 3 character classes are available, and after choosing a side, the same number will become available and a couple for droids. Leveling up the protagonist occurs according to the classic scheme: gained experience - improved the strength skill (analogous to a spell).

For using powers, slowly recovering power points are deducted, and a dark character needs more of them if he uses a light spell, and vice versa.

Diablo series

All of Blizzard's Diablo games have had official expansion packs, and most people classify their series as action-RPGs.

The dark fantasy world of Sanctuary is very reminiscent of Meso America, Middle Ages Europe and Arab countries, inhabited by light and dark creatures.

The demon Diablo descended into the originally bright world from Navi along with his puppets. The gamer is obliged to send evil back to the underworld, with the help of the archangel of justice.

Caves, dungeons and catacombs of a civilization that once existed in these expanses are available for exploration.

Character classes that are similar to each other and have almost identical skills do not play the most positive role in the first part.

The sequel became the fastest-selling game of 2000. According to the plot, the protagonists of any of the races are eager to fight with the demon Diablo.

They are distinguished by three sets of spells and skills, the ability to summon assistants and hire scouts, warriors and magicians.

Diablo III has added 5 characters of different genders with developed characteristics and skills. The action bar has replaced potion and spell slots.

The events take place two decades after the completion of the 2nd part, but almost no one from old acquaintances and witnesses of the battle with the demon is alive.

New cities, secret levels and monsters provide a place where the ardent fan of the series can accelerate.

Dark Souls series

The gameplay of the action RPG from the Japanese studio FromSoftware takes place in a dark gothic world filled with dragons and knights.

Each part tells about the decline of grandiose kingdoms following a series of terrible events.

The gameplay is tied to the confrontation between fire and darkness, which the protagonist will support or extinguish through his actions.

The plot begins with choosing a class, indicating the gender and a host of other traits of the hero with individual characteristics and initial equipment.

The protagonist is upgraded using souls (experience) taken from defeated enemies or found in locations. For the souls of bosses, you can create unique weapons.

Death and resurrection is the highlight of Dark Souls. As a result of a character's fall in battle, accumulated souls are lost, but experience is gained that will help solve a similar problem in the future.

After the first death, souls can be returned, but until the next resurrection.

Online play will help you avoid death: at the place where other gamers fell, tombstones appear with comments about the reasons for the defeat.

Other players in the single-player campaign appear as ghosts when playing online and can be observed but not interacted with.

The gloomy world of Dark Souls 3

Fable series

An unusual RPG with a plot where for every step and every movement you will sooner or later have to pay, answer, receive privileges and otherwise feel its consequences.

In this regard, the warrior develops sculpted muscles, and old clothes, sloppiness and theft will make people turn away from the overgrown and unwashed protagonist.

Points are awarded for good and bad deeds, and of varying quality. Having done many good deeds, the hero will run around with a halo, and the killer and thief are given away by flies, red eyes, and an evil smile.

The whole game is the life of the protagonist, and he grows up, becomes mature and ages from chapter to chapter, regardless of karma.

You can use firearms, bladed weapons, and magic as weapons. Moreover, you can buy a sword made of meteorite iron, or you can get a bow made of oak - the most unsuitable material for this, and the weapons will be of different quality.

Modifiers will help improve weapons.

The ability to be sexually active and start a family is one of the features of Lionhead Studios.

The choice of partners will satisfy any gamer, because in Fable you can live with two wives, have a mistress, and even be married to a man.

The dog also appears in the second part. He can be trained in combat skills and searching for objects.

An innovation in Fable III is a refuge, which is monitored by the protagonist’s faithful servant. This is a replacement for pause and the main menu. Here you have access to:

  • cards;
  • weapons;
  • dressing room;
  • teleporter;
  • trophy rooms.

Fallout series

RPG about survival and life in a post-apocalyptic world, developed by a number of companies. The action takes place in the wasteland of the USA after a nuclear war.

Chaos, force of arms and chance rule here. The futuristic atmosphere is steeped in Cold War culture.

A huge open world with underground complexes, cities, small settlements and remnants of the architecture of the past, permeated with gamma rays and filled with pleasant surprises and countless dangers awaits its adventurers.

Navigation tools in Fallout are PDAs created in the 50s called Pip-Boys.

Nonsense, but plasma and other energy weapons flooded the entire territory of the Wasteland, and since the disaster, technological progress has frozen.

Everyone uses the remnants of the past, making houses from the remains of destroyed buildings and shooting the ammunition they find at each other and the mutated beasts.

The leveling system from the very first part was carried through the entire series of games. The hero’s 7 attributes are the basis of his personality; they allow you to acquire perks and upgrade your skills.

Controlling a partner or a faithful friend - a dog - will help improve the effectiveness of the battle.

The isometric graphics of the first two parts are replaced by a full-fledged three-dimensional engine and allows you to change the camera view.

The series is distinguished by a well-developed shooter component and the presence of weapon crafting and equipment repair.

Post-apocalyptic world of Fallout 4

Mass Effect series

An alternate history set in the fictional Mass Effect universe. In three of the four games, the protagonist is Shepard, the captain of the Normandy and a decorated fighter.

Only he is able to resist the reapers - a synthetic race eager to destroy organic life.

He will have to unravel the mystery of the visions appearing thanks to an ancient artifact, investigate the disappearance of the population of colonized planets and unite all the warring and neutral parties to jointly fight against synthetic creatures.

In Mass Effect Andromeda, the new hero will be busy exploring the unexplored corners of the galaxy cluster. The hero is controlled by the gamer, and a couple of his assistants are controlled by AI with the ability to give them tactical orders at any time. The weapon is charged with universal thermal charges.

Energy shields and armor, and temporary barriers act as means of protecting opponents and partners.

The characters also have biotic abilities to raise the spirit of fighters and demoralize the enemy. Grenade indicators, rolls and cover - the games have everything inherent in shooters.

Communication is an important component of how others view Shepard. Each remark makes team members more loyal or arouses suspicion.

In the third part, heavy guns disappeared from the arsenal, but the number of weapons carried became unlimited, and the level limit doubled, to 60.

The multiplayer mode features tower defense-style battles between 1-4 people against waves of enemies.

Still from Mass Effect

Dragon Age series

Another brainchild of BioWare about times similar to the alternative Middle Ages.

The continent, divided into cities and states, is inhabited by many races, more or less predisposed to certain activities, damage, having different skills in the arts and each preferring their own means of combat.

The time of Mora has come on the mainland. This time in the Age of the Dragon, hordes of undead have begun to appear from the underworld, and only the Gray Wardens can calm them down.

But many states are at war now; they will not only have to be reconciled, but also united.

There are classically four races and three specializations to choose from: warrior, mage and rogue. The characters of each of them differ in bonuses and have improved skills of certain specializations.

If in the first part specializations can be combined, then in the rest the magician cannot replace the staff with a sword, and the warrior will not take two one-handed weapons due to the lack of necessary skills in the specialization branches.

Fights and movements are carried out alone or in a squad of up to 4 people. The partners perform their role automatically, but commands can be given to them at any time, which expands the tactical possibilities of the game.

In the third part, during battle, health and energy are not restored.

From game to game, the area and variety of locations, the density of events on them, and their interactivity increase. Communication makes a significant contribution to relationships with others.

Gameplay in Dragon Age Inquisition

The Witcher series

The setting of the series is taken from the novels of Andrzej Sapkowski, and its successful implementation made the final final part one of the best computer games in history.

The storyline, especially the ending and the world itself are highly dependent on the decisions and actions of Geralt, a monster hunter with incredible abilities, combat and magical skills.

The game offers classic game mechanics with trading, crafting, alchemy, psychic skills, blacksmithing, leveling...

The hero constantly travels, makes new acquaintances, fulfills orders, finds weapons, drawings of unique things, develops, changes the world and does an incredible number of other actions, the list of which, especially for Wild Hunt, will be excessively long.

Unlike the first part, the 2nd and final part gives the gamer complete freedom in absolutely everything.

Geralt wields a pair of swords:

  • steel– for fights with people and animals;
  • silver- to kill the undead.

Elixirs, tinctures, and extracts help the witcher survive, complete orders, and advance through the story.

Simple spells will save his life more than once by protecting him from damage, pushing the enemy away, or affecting his mind, slowing down, or setting the enemy on fire.

Still from The Wither III

Gothic series

A nameless hero with no past is forced to confront the Sleeper, dragons and orcs in a three-part series.

The character is free to join any faction, receiving certain privileges and following his own path of development, although a magician is not prohibited from using swords, and a fighter is not prohibited from shooting accurately with a crossbow.

Experience points are awarded for completing quests and killings. Upon reaching a new level, training points appear, which are spent on upgrading skills from the master.

Reading some books and tablets (in the 2nd part) also improves skills. Rare herbs, prayer at the altar, elixirs and exclusive items also improve your skills.

In the third part there is a reputation - the attitude of cities and camps towards the Nameless.

Among the skills, the hero can improve combat, magic, thieves and special skills (blacksmithing, hunting, alchemy).

The first parts are divided into chapters, ending with the completion of key quests. Many representatives of fauna and flora are unique to this game world.

Most are found in all parts, like the main characters.

Screenshot from Gothic 3

Deus Ex series

A representative of a role-playing game in the cyber-punk style with a well-developed shooter component and stealth elements.

There are several ways to complete a mission in any Deus Ex: from silent movement around the location to a bloody shootout.

The hero receives skills that give an advantage over the enemy due to implants embedded in the body. Initially, they are inactive and require special software packages to launch: a pair to activate, one to upgrade a skill.

They are sold and hidden in the bins of each location.

Without the activation of the implants, the hero will be a man without a titanium shield and a Tesla module, and the only salvation will be the usual weapons and smart use of cover.

Available modifiers cannot be activated all together, so as not to overload the fighter’s energy circuit.

Because of implants, society is split in two: some are against interference in the bodies created by the creator, others are eking out a great future for genetic engineering and transhumanism.

Whatever the path to completing the quest, it will not affect the ending of the story in any of the four games.

Still from Deus Ex

The list of the best RPGs can be completed by the Risen series, created by the co-developer of Gothic, and the isometric role-playing games Sacred 2, Titan Quest and Neverwinter Nights.

Do you play games on your Android smartphone or tablet? Personally, yes, but people like us are immediately faced with a serious obstacle, because in the app store there are a lot of time killers, runners, pixel platformers and much more. And although I do not despise all these genres as such, such an abundance of such games sometimes makes it difficult to find something truly interesting and worthwhile. And since I myself often encounter a similar problem, I decided to make a top list of the best in my genre, starting with, in fact, my favorite - RPG. So, after reading this top, you will learn the 10 best RPG games that you can download to your device running both Android and iOS. By the way, I want to warn you about one thing - the top is not compiled from any comments, reviews, feedback or ratings in app stores, but solely from my personal opinion. So most of what is said here will be very subjective, but I’m a player like you, so I understand you perfectly and will not specifically come up with advantages or disadvantages for a particular game. If you are interested, welcome, I hope you enjoy the games from this top.

10th place – Earth And Legend

If you've ever played Crusade of Destiny, which used to be a pretty popular RPG on Android and iOS, then you should love this new game from the same developers. It has, in fact, everything that you loved in Crusade of Destiny, only the picture is much better, although now it doesn’t seem as good as at the time of release. But nevertheless, unsightly graphics do not make this game bad, because it has a lot of possibilities: dynamic weather and day and night cycles, support for cooperative play via Bluetooth, complete freedom of movement around locations, taming pets and much more.

And the game is not bad and addictive, but there are too few dialogues and quests in it, the world is quite empty, and the game’s engine has not changed compared to the previous part. Overall, a solid RPG, but not as interesting as the others, so let's move on to number nine.

9th place – Battleheart Legacy

Battleheart Legacy is a continuation of the game Battleheart, which was released on mobile devices back in 2011. But even though it's a sequel, you don't have to play the original game - Legacy acts as a completely independent RPG. What's special about this game is, first of all, the controls. The developers decided to get rid of the usual left stick, necessary for movement, replacing it with taps on the screen. Everything is extremely simple: click on a place - the character goes there. Personally, I can’t say for sure whether such controls are convenient, but the fact that the developers decided to approach this issue is good news in itself.

The game also doesn't have any of the class restrictions found in many mobile RPGs. If you don’t understand, in most cases we initially choose a character class (warrior, mage, thief or archer) and after that we either constantly fight with a sword, or constantly use magic, and so on. And although there is also such a choice in the game, it is rather conditional, because we can always upgrade our character to an archer who uses magic in battle or, if necessary, takes out a sword and chops down annoying enemies in close combat. I consider this opportunity to be an advantage of the game, because in this case there is no need to think at the very beginning whether this or that class will suit us - if desired, simply upgrade the character to a different type of weapon. Exploration of the world occurs by moving a marker on the map from one location to another, and a random event may begin right during movement. The game also has its own graphic style, which, by the way, may not appeal to everyone. In the meantime, you are thinking about whether you will like it, I suggest moving on to the eighth place in the top.

8th place – Dungeon Hunter 4.

Surely many have heard about the Dungeon Hunter series from Gameloft. Once upon a time, these were just standard mobile RPGs. The only pity is that the second part became the last of the reference ones, and the third and fourth are already much worse than the previous ones in many things (except, of course, graphics). However, if you do not take into account the older parts of the series, Dungeon Hunter 4 was, in fact, one of the best in the genre for quite a long time. And also free. Do you understand what I'm getting at? That's right, donat. Although in defense of the game I can say that donating is not so intrusive, I personally played about 30 hours of it and did not see the need to invest a couple of hundred rubles for faster leveling or clearing the next dungeon. So yes, even though there is a donation, it can hardly be called a minus.
If you want to know about the plot, then this game tells us about a kingdom that was suddenly invaded by demons, with whom we will have to fight. And, basically, that's all you need to know about the plot, because it's pretty boring and mediocre.
The game has a well-developed open world, good (for the time of release, of course) graphics, interesting gameplay, several classes and many character abilities. If you want a free and very good RPG, you probably won’t regret downloading DH4.
“Wait, there’s Dungeon Hunter 5, why is it in the top 4?” – such a thought might have occurred to you, and I understand you perfectly. The fact is that I myself was looking forward to the fifth part, downloaded it on the day of release and... I was disappointed. Yes, they improved the graphics, added a lot of new animations and features, but the game does not, for example, have an open world (and in my opinion this is one of the main attributes for an RPG), and it is not as addictive as the 4th one. Although, I repeat, this is my personal opinion, and you may well like the 5th part.

Let's look at the pros and cons of Dungeon Hunter 4, which I can tell you after 30 hours of play:
Pros: good open world, good graphics, some semblance of a plot (which I wrote about above), many opportunities in terms of leveling up and modifying equipment, the presence of the Russian language.
Cons: donation (as I wrote about above) and lack of saving in the cloud.
The last minus, by the way, is also the reason why I abandoned this game. Well, a game lasting more than 50 hours cannot store data only on the device. If it had cloud synchronization, I might still be playing it. In the meantime, you’re wondering whether you often change devices or reset them to factory settings – let’s move on to the seventh place in our top.

7th place – Wild Blood

King Arthur suddenly went mad with jealousy towards Sir Lancelot, who took advantage of the opportunity to court Queen Guinereva. Taking this opportunity, Morgana forced Arthur to open the gates of hell and demons came to earth. Now Sir Lancelot will have to sort out this whole situation.
I don't know if you need this plot description, but it sounds pretty epic, so it was worth including. The game was released at the same time when Gameloft had not yet slipped into free-to-play and were making really worthwhile games.

Powered by Unreal Engine, excellent graphics, gameplay is also pretty good, many types of weapons and network mode. It's a pretty solid RPG, but I'd think twice about buying it, since the developer has undermined his credibility. Unfortunately, I haven't played much of this game, so I can't write much about it, but what I've seen is enough to say that this game is worth playing.

6th place - Aralon: Sword And Shadow

I personally considered Aralon for quite a long time to be one of the best RPGs for mobile devices. But this game has several problems: an outdated engine, outdated graphics, the game does not support new screen resolutions, and so on. Yes, at the time of release these problems did not exist, but now they can interfere with your enjoyment of the gameplay. At the same time, the game is still pretty good: a lot of quests, items, dialogues and a plot for more than 30 hours.

According to the plot, our hero is one of the king's guards. But the main character’s father was killed, and it is in solving the murder, searching for the killers and avenging the death of his father that the plot of the game lies. The developers promise a fascinating plot with many riddles, tasks and battles.
The game also has an open world that you can fully explore and also talk to all of the characters, both story and non-story. At the same time, the world is made quite alive: at certain times the sun sets and rises, chickens run across the lawns, and people in villages and cities go about their daily affairs. All this creates a certain atmosphere, which, of course, is not as amazing as in the first place of our top, but still quite good and much better than much of what is in mobile device app stores. If only because it simply exists. The game is addictive, you want to play it, but problems with new devices may well spoil your impression of the game. In principle, this is its only disadvantage. Lots of possibilities and a big world give this game sixth place in our top. But, alas, it’s hard for her to stand up against her competitors, so let’s see what we have in fifth place.

5th place – Evoland

Have you ever thought about how you can create a completely original and unique game? Surely you come to mind various stories about something that has not yet been touched upon, or various combat systems hitherto unseen in the genre. But the guys from Shiro Games thought better and came up with the concept of a truly unique RPG. Meet Evoland.
What is so unique about it? The fact that your main goal here is not the extermination of millions of mobs. Yes, of course, there is an open world, and leveling, and even a storyline (although the plot is made according to the principle “If only it was”), but the concept of the game itself is radically different from all the competitors of this game. The fact is that this is a kind of excursion through the history of the development of video games in general and RPG games in particular. Almost throughout the entire gameplay, we will come across chests, by opening which we will make a leap in the development of video games: either enemies will open, or a health bar, or even three-dimensional locations. And although this is not exactly the RPG that will delight us for days, it is definitely worth going through if only for the sake of this very uniqueness. And in general it is quite simple and understandable.

The combat system in the game... It's different. Yes, this is exactly the term that is suitable here, because during the gameplay the game changes beyond recognition both in terms of graphics and in terms of gameplay and combat system. Here you can run around locations with a simple sword attack in a certain area as in games for the GameBoy, and explore the open world and turn-based battles in the style of Final Fantasy, and real-time battles in the style of Diablo. After playing this game you can also look at what gamers of the previous generation endured.
The graphics in the game are also different - from pixelated two-dimensional and black and white to adequate 3D.
There are also Easter eggs for the attentive: if you like to read dialogues from beginning to end, read descriptions of all objects and study all locations, and also if you are familiar with the series of games The Legend Of Zelda, Diablo and Final Fantasy - you will certainly find a lot of fun things and references. Either you have to fight the ghost of the antagonist of one of the FF parts, or you will find something that, when worn, will give you +10 to the spirit of adventure or great critical damage when attacking cows... In general, for those who are especially attentive and meticulous, there will be many things that they can laugh at .

4th place – Order & Chaos Online 2: Redemption

Have you ever thought that you can play full-fledged MMORPGs on mobile devices? If so, then some developers are also not against such an idea. Among them, Gameloft especially stands out with its Order & Chaos Online, which was the best mobile MMORPG for 4 years. But technology does not stand still, as does the hardware of devices, and the company had to release a new part (although I think they could have simply improved the graphics of the old game in an update). So, meet Order & Chaos 2: Redemption. Without a doubt, this game, together with the first part, will be included in all the tops of the best MMORPGs on mobile devices: quests with lots of dialogue, a large open world, very good graphics, lots of weapons and ways to level up your character.

The multiplayer component is also done at its best: here you can see guilds, PVP, and all the characters on the server in real time (which causes some inconvenience when completing some quests). In general, I recommend this game to those who love MMORPGs and do not want to part with them even when away from the computer.

3rd place – Vainglory

Another replacement for full-fledged PC games, but now in the MOBA genre. I would say that this game is the best in the genre (naturally on mobile devices), but it’s hard for me to do this, because in fact it has only one competitor - Heroes of Order & Chaos. At the same time, Vainglory personally seems to me more interesting in terms of gameplay.

The game is good in everything. The graphics, music, and gameplay are all top notch. At the same time, the developers did not forget about the target platform: the map is quite small so as not to waste a lot of time moving around it, and there is only one line with towers. There is also a forest in which there are three mines (the capture of which will help one of the teams). Fights last on average 20-30 minutes.
The game, in general, is similar to its colleagues in the industry, but at the same time it is not deprived of its originality. If you need a full-fledged MOBA on your phone or tablet, feel free to download it, you won’t regret it. The developers, by the way, are constantly adding new characters and new features to the game.

2nd place – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

The events of the game take place approximately four thousand years before the events of the first part of the film. We wake up on a spaceship that is being stormed by the Sith, and after that one of the pilots asks you to help him break through the hordes of enemies and find an important person who was on our ship. This is where the story begins, which will most likely be interesting for you from beginning to end.
This game is worth playing for three reasons: if you are a Star Wars fan, if you played it as a child and want to feel nostalgic, or if you are just looking for a great RPG for your smartphone or tablet. For me personally, this game is exactly the game of childhood. By the way, unlike all previous games, this one is worth playing on a tablet, because this game is intended for PC and was developed for large screens. On phones, of course, it’s also possible, but it’s still not nearly as convenient as on tablets.
What's good about this game? All. Music, plot, atmosphere, characters, locations. Everything you can think of is at a very high level. The only problem, again, is the graphics, which, although quite good, is still a game released in 2003 and the level of graphics is appropriate.

I would also like to note that the game contains a number of references to the film. For example, in the game you can meet some characters with the surnames of various film heroes, which somehow hints that these are their distant ancestors (one character even has a surname that was originally supposed to go to Luke Skywalker, but for some reason it was changed ). Or, for example, a couple of quotes from films, very appropriately inserted into the gameplay. Again, if you're a Star Wars fan, you'll probably love these references.
The PC version of the game received many positive reviews from a variety of publications, and it is easy to understand that it received them for a reason.
But everyone is probably already wondering what is so outlandish about the first place, even if a port of an old PC game with a bunch of awards lost to it. Let's not delay and look at what, in my opinion, deserves the title of “Best Mobile RPG”.

1. The Bard's Tale

Surely you have already heard about this game. This is not surprising, since this is a port of the famous PC game, except with controls adapted for the touch screen.
This game is made in the form of a bard's narrative. This bard is not simple: firstly, he has a magic lute, with the help of which he can call upon magical allies or similar things to help him. Secondly, the main character himself appears as a joker with a good sense of humor. And in general, he is quite selfish and cheerful, which also keeps you from getting bored during the gameplay.

“The Bard's Tale” also stands out from other games in its genre in the way it presents tasks. From the very first task you will understand this, and most likely you will not want to tear yourself away from the game. Lots of jokes, gags, atmospheric non-playable characters (just look at the drunk choir, which can sing to us if desired). Almost all quests are given to us during video inserts, which, of course, are made on the game engine. And the game itself, in some way, laughs at the seriousness of most (if not all) classic RPGs, while being an excellent representative of this genre.
For its excellent atmosphere and plot, the game comes out on top in our top.

That's probably all. As you have already noticed, with mobile games everything is not so bad, and if you rummage through the application store, you can find a couple of good projects. In the meantime, I'm wondering what games did you like best and what would you put in first place?
