Space Rangers Android how to play. Space Rangers: Quest

Let’s do a simple test right away so as not to waste anyone’s time. If you now mentally translated “Space Rangers”, you felt something swaying loudly inside, a pathos march rang in your ears, and a seemingly forever forgotten string of strange words like “Pelengi”, “Faeians” and “Maloki” surfaced in your head. , then you are right at the address. Everyone else can read, for example, about Space Marshals 2.

Let us immediately disappoint you - no, this is not the third part. This, in general, is not even a continuation - rather a side project, a step to the side. But damn, these are the first " Space Rangers"on mobile - you can't miss this, you can't.

The basis of the game rests, as you can understand, on quests - the same ones that infuriated and delighted so much in the first two parts of the space saga. There's nothing else in Quest. Nothing. No trade, no other ships, no battles, not even this map rolled out with a rolling pin. Only many, many quests and bureaucratic conditions - here is the fuel, here is the money, here is the strength of the ship. You can travel from system to system, but it’s all very sketchy: you are spinning in the middle of endless space, you can drop into only one base, repair the ship there and, in general, that’s all. If you're lucky, a screen will pop up, dragging you into another adventure - for example, aliens will get in touch, and you need to decipher the message. Couldn't you? Wave the pen of a missed opportunity.

Although there actually are battles - they’re just text-based too. Something from the early 2000s, when “Fight Club” lived in browsers: you choose where to hit, where to close, then the computer calculates the mutual damage, does some shamanism, and outputs: yeah, this move took 154 plating units from your ship , and from the enemy - 76. The probability of winning indirectly depends on the weapon supplied, but nothing can save you from randomness: you can either accidentally send a military flotilla to the next world or lose to a random merchant.

And finally, why we all came here – quests. You arrive at the system, read the description, estimate the amount of the fee (here it’s almost the only way earn money) - well, you jump into the pool of a million paragraphs.

Missions rest on the same supports as always - and you fall into this lettered world with the same eagerness. Kilometer-long descriptions, inclusions of (sometimes funny) jokes, the obvious literary talent of the authors - and a well-developed universe, of course. Largely because of the last point, there is no point in playing for beginners: they will not understand why in the quest about working as a taxi driver they do not need to take on passengers-bearers, and when they go to prison, they do not need to offend Maloks.

Those who left a part of themselves in “Space Rangers” will understand - and will be surprised to discover how difficult it is to complete at least some task in this game. Quests have become more tough, pragmatic and demanding: in particular, it is proposed to solve a full-fledged algebraic problem. To do this - yes, yes - you need to take a piece of paper, a pen in the physical world, and decide. It's no surprise that a calculator is built right into the game - and doubly not surprising that it actually comes in handy.

Space Rangers: Quest (just don't faint) costs 379 rubles, and something tells me that this is deliberate - let strangers not interfere at all, but their own are already writing servile comments on the page in App Store.

More recently, the App Store has been overwhelmed by a wave of text quests. Having launched one of them (it was Lifeline), I found that it was a rather primitive entertainment in which the user reads a story and from time to time selects answer options.

Not understanding the general hype and high ratings, I deleted this application and diligently avoided similar ones. But I recently downloaded Endless Summer for free. In essence, this is the same as a text quest, only on the screen there were not only letters, but also pictures. I liked the graphic text more, but it’s still difficult to call this application a game. More like a book with the simplest single-cell interactive.

And finally, a proper classic text quest has appeared in the App Store. Space Rangers (Space Rangers: Quest or SR:Q for short) fully met my expectations in terms of fun. From the first minutes I was immersed in the everyday life of an adventurer and could not tear myself away for several hours.

Gameplay description

Firstly, I warn you right away that You need to read a lot in SR:Q. Not just a lot, but a lot! I don’t know who compiled all the descriptions, but these people did their best. If you have a little imagination, you can imagine in detail what is happening to your hero.

Secondly, the entire text is imbued with subtle humor. I adore this, but not everyone will appreciate and understand this kind of humor.

Thirdly, text descriptions are very specific. That is, I perfectly understand people who will not be able to get into the crazy plot moves.

How does the game work?

The player has a ship on which he explores space in search of five wanderers. Space consists of sectors, each of which contains planets. The player moves between planets, spending fuel units. Hello, !

The player also scans the planets in search of messengers and new quests. But the quests in this game are crazy in a good way. I wanted to avoid spoilers, but give one example for better understanding I have to play games. And this example won’t reveal many secrets to you.

On one of the planets you need to cook pizza. The player is given several dozen (!) ingredients to choose from. Among the judges there are representatives of different civilizations. All civilizations have different tastes and preferences, which can be recognized from excerpts from books (yeah, you have to wade through a mountain of text). You need to prepare a pizza so that the amount of points you receive allows you to take third place in the competition.

I spent half an hour trying to complete this task through trial and error. If you think that other tasks are easier, you are deeply mistaken. There may be faster ones, but they certainly don’t reduce the degree of extravagance. Yes, and there is something to think about in them.

The game has in-game currency, which must be earned in tasks in order to open new sectors, scan planets, and spend on ship improvements.

Conclusion: Space Rangers: Quest won't appeal to everyone, but once you're hooked, you won't let go. This is a proper complex text quest for gourmets. 4.5 out of 5.

P.S. In my review, I deliberately did not touch on the progenitors of this game: Space Rangers (2002) and Space Rangers: Dominators (2004). I have not played them and know about these games only in general terms. Therefore, it was difficult to delve into the plot and features of the five races. It will definitely be easier for fans of computer Rangers! Are there any? How would you rate this project? :)
