Games like the Witcher. Games similar to The Witcher

Our list opens, oddly enough, with the previous parts famous series. To be honest, many gamers met Geralt only in “Wild Hunt”, having missed the first two games. Despite the fact that The Witcher 3 was a huge breakthrough, they, although lacking an open world, are good in their own way.

The first "Witcher", if we leave aside some of its woodenness and venerable age, can still boast of fascinating stories and successful moments in revealing the character of Geralt himself. The second game acquired an excellent plot, one of the decisions in which divided the game in two, and a combat system, perhaps more complex and stylish than in the third part.

If you didn’t have enough of the world and characters after “Wild Hunt” was ground to ashes, “Assassin of Kings” will be able to please you with new portions of lore and atmosphere.

The second “The Witcher” in many ways served as the basis for the acclaimed third part, so it deserves attention if only because of the opportunity to look at the path taken by the developers. In any case, if you liked The Witcher 3 and didn’t get acquainted with the original and the sequel, you simply must do it now.

Assassin's Creed Origins

Origins turned Ubisoft's flagship series into a true RPG, clearly taking inspiration from Poland's The Witcher. While other games in the Assassin's Creed series do not have " Wild hunt"nothing to do with it, Origins fits our list perfectly.

The action of "Origins" takes place in Ancient Egypt, and the main character is Bayek, Medjay, servant of the pharaoh, people's defender. In this capacity, Bayek is similar to Geralt, especially considering side quests, constantly asking to help people solve their problems.

Speaking of side quests, following the example of The Witcher, Origins tries to weave these quests into the main plot or make interesting stand-alone stories out of them. Needless to say that here they are the most thoughtful in the entire series?

At the same time, the game offers us a huge world that can be explored on foot, on horseback or by boat. Just like in The Witcher.

Istoki has by far the most advanced open world franchise (soon to be followed by Odyssey), in which Geralt fans will find plenty to do.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War

Almost all fantasy media culture is inspired, in one way or another, by The Lord of the Rings, which is equally true for The Witcher.

Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are the most adult and cruel works in the world of Middle-earth, telling us about the events between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. Both games are perfect for everyone who liked The Witcher.

The plot revolves around the ranger Talion, who is killed by Sauron's army and resurrected (and possessed) by Celebrimbor, the lord of the elves. The game worlds of "Shadows" may be inferior to "The Witcher" in size and detail, but they are definitely worth your attention.

Talion is an agile and skilled fighter, and Celebrimbor's abilities allow him to move across Mordor like lightning.

Fans of Geralt will also appreciate the combat system here: dynamic, built on combos and counterattacks. The depth and uniqueness of “Shadows” is added by the “Nemesis” system, which is responsible for creating orc leaders who will become your sworn enemies or allies.

Do you love The Witcher for its fantasy atmosphere? Then you especially shouldn’t miss both “Shadows”.

Dark Souls

IN Dark Souls, there may not be a big open world, but there are plenty of secrets and mysteries that you can spend a lot of time working on. The games in the series provide truly unique experiences, but they have enough in common with The Witcher to keep its fans interested.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Renowned talent has been brought together to develop another open-world fantasy game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Ken Rolston, gameplay designer The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, acted as executive producer. Acclaimed fantasy writer Robert Salvatore created the world and its lore, while Spawn creator Todd McFarlane provided the art and character designs.

The game didn't live long enough to live up to the bold expectations of its creators, but that doesn't make it any less quality. The game's setting is rich in different races and religions, combat system is action-oriented and gives the player the opportunity to use a variety of weapons, fighting styles and classes. Much of KoA: Reckoning depends on the decisions of the player himself, and not without consequences.

In some ways, Kingdoms of Amalur tried to push the boundaries of the genre, but failed. However, her world is so vast and rich that you don’t notice this very failure. If you're looking for a quality fantasy game to scratch your Witcher itch, this is a great option.

You can get back into the dark fairy tale of Geralt’s world with Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. This full game, which is a single-player Gwent campaign from a series of short stories in the Witcher universe. Well, you can meet Geralt himself in SoulCalibur VI, where he appears as a guest star.

Find games like The Witcher 3, not easy. None of them come close to being the third installment in the Geralt franchise (with the exception of Skyrim). The Witcher 3 is an amazing game in every way. After just a few hours of gameplay, I realized how huge this medieval world is. Even me, an experienced player, Witcher 3 I was amazed by the variety of quests and new territories.

We can talk endlessly about the last part of the saga of the white-haired monster slayer. But today I would like to talk about games similar to The Witcher 3. Although it is not an easy task to find developments that can offer something close to the rich world of the third part of the Geralt series, such masterpieces nevertheless exist. I present to your attention 10 best games, similar to The Witcher 3.

1. The Elder Scrolls Skyrim

This is the last part of the legendary series The Elder Scrolls, which for many years determined the direction of development of the RPG industry. Even the guys from CD Project Red who created The Witcher 3 acknowledge the influence Skyrim.

Last part The The Elder Scrolls is not an RPG that you want to beat quickly. Bethesda spent 5 years creating Skyrim, putting everything the company had to offer into the game. There are plenty of places to explore, caves to clear, and abilities to level up. All this can take a gamer hundreds of hours.

After the recent release of WItcher 3, many people began to compare both games, but this is absurd. Don't forget that Skyrim was released 6 years ago. Essentially, the latest installment of The Elder Scrolls is a previous generation game. Although it is not perfect, it is still a masterpiece that deserves attention. World of Skyrim full of surprises that make gameplay interesting and unforgettable.

2-3. The Witcher series

The rest of the Geralt franchise is just as exciting as the third installment. If you have a PC, you can play Witcher 1 And Witcher 2 if you haven't already done so. Both games allow us to better understand the protagonist of the series, Geralt of Rivia, and his actions. While it's not necessary, I recommend you give the first two installments of the franchise a try.

Witcher 1 and Witcher 2 don't have an open world like the last Witcher, but it also has a great story and the ability to influence events with your actions, which makes it a lot closer to the third game in the franchise.

4. Dragon Age: Inquisition

85 hours is approximately how long you should play the game. Dragon Age:Inquisition, to see end credits. I'm not even counting the countless side quests. Of course, there are RPGs with a larger world. But only in Inquisition did it turn out to be so intense. No matter which direction you go, you will find a quest everywhere.

Of course, Inquision is not a pure sandbox. There is a semi-open world with a map divided into different areas that gradually become accessible to the player. It should also be noted interesting story and thoughtful dialogue that makes quests more interesting. Even after 85 hours of playthrough, many places remained unvisited by me.

If you're looking for a game similar to Witcher 3, be sure to try Dragon Age: Inquisition. You won't regret it.

5. Gothic 2

Gothic 2– the most old game on the list. This is an action RPG, the foundation of which was laid by the first part of the series. Some may be disappointed by the outdated graphics. But in fact, this is one of the deepest games. Although the size of the world of Gothic 2 is far from The Witcher 3, like the stars, the choices and decisions that have to be made bring it closer to the last part of the series about Geralt. Gothic 2 is one of the few games where your actions always have consequences. Even after many years, Gothika 2 is still one of the best action RPGs to date.

6. The Elder Scroll Oblivion

After its release in 2006 The Elder Scroll Oblivion is still considered one of the best action RPGs. It was an amazing achievement - a complex open world with a lot of detail. What else does an RPG fan need? Oblivion made The Elder Scrolls series famous by smoothing out the shortcomings of the previous part. Although Morrowind was an amazing action RPG, only die-hard fans of the franchise were able to appreciate it. As for Oblivion, even if you are not a fan of role-playing games, it is very difficult not to fall in love with this beautiful and colorful world.

The main quest takes approximately 50 hours to complete, but there are also side quests that will take you twice as long to complete. You can join different guilds and factions, destroy robbers in caves, communicate with different people. All this makes Oblivion one of the best games like Witcher 3.

7-8. Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas

Actions of all games in the series Fallout take place in a post-apocalyptic world that has survived a nuclear war. The USA and China launched nuclear strikes on each other in 2077, which left huge radioactive wastelands with ghouls, super mutants and miraculously surviving people. In most games in the series main character- a shelter dweller who went outside for the first time after many years. You begin to explore the vast wasteland to see what is left of the world.

The first three parts, released in the 90s. The 20th century was two-dimensional. Then Bethesda bought the license for the franchise and began making 3D games. The first part, developed by an American company, was Fallout 3, published in 2008. Next game Fallout: New Vegas , which was released in 2010, was made by another studio, Obsidian Studio.

You can play any part of the series. But if you want games similar to The Witcher 3, then you should pay attention to Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It seems like both franchises are too different. The Witcher 3 takes place in the Middle Ages, and Fallout series– in a post-apocalyptic world. However, they do have common features.

In both franchises, the emphasis is on the player's ability to be whoever they want to be. You often have to make decisions that affect the plot. That's why both games ended up on our list.

9. Kingdom Comes: Deliverance

Just look at the game trailer! Isn't this amazing? It is an RPG still in development and expected to be released in 2018. The game will apparently take place in medieval world. It is impossible not to note the amazing combat mechanics. In short, the developers know how to get gamers to shell out their cash. Well, let's hope that this is a really good game that will be no worse than Witcher 3.

10. Cyberpunk 2077

There's no doubt that Cyberpunk 2077 will borrow some features from Witcher 3, because the game is being developed by the same studio - CD Projekt Red. Details are unknown, but, apparently, it will be a “sandbox” with a branching plot that will depend on our actions. The sad thing is that the Polish developer has not yet talked about the future game. We can only hope that CD Projekt Red will not let us down and Cyberpunk 2077 will be better than Witcher 3.

The genre to which the Witcher series of games belongs cannot be called new or original. There are a lot of interesting features mixed in here, borrowed from other projects. The open world was still in its most first The Elder Scrolls, action scenes of fighting monsters delighted us in the first Gothic, and dozens of different RPG games attracted gamers with interesting scenarios.

Games similar to the legendary Witcher 3 do not necessarily have to copy its concept exactly the same. After all, in this case we would be talking about banal clones. And clones are always worse than the original, even if they are made at the same level of quality. We'll talk about other projects that share similarities in some gameplay elements. But games similar to the unique Witcher 3 must have an open world, a well-thought-out plot and high-quality graphics for its time.

Fallout 4 - collapsed civilization

War never brings any good. Here in world of Fallout, where the post-apocalypse no longer seems like a fairy tale from a movie, people are struggling with the consequences of their own mistakes. At one moment, the skies lit up with thousands of lights, which, like meteorites, deafened the Earth with shock waves and destroyed what had been built over millennia. Society has returned almost to the primitive system, where everyone is for himself.

But it is not only humanity that has become its own enemy. After the atomic war, the effects of radiation turned many living beings into terrible monsters. Traveling through the wasteland is now as dangerous as before in the jungle with tigers or on rivers with crocodiles.

Even if the main character is far from being of the “witcher” type and is not considered a great hero because of his magical abilities. But he is trying his best to survive in the new world, where the simplest resources are worth their weight in gold, and the riches of past years are not worth a penny. If you take on the challenge of going through its non-linear story filled with interesting twists, you will have to sort out a huge mountain of problems. But it’s worth it - as a result, society can become better, and life in it will become at least a little more like a peaceful and calm place. It is difficult to get back on your feet when you have lost your most precious possessions, but it is necessary in a harsh world that does not encourage weakness.

Mass Effect 3 - a threat from space

Humanity has long begun to explore space. Flights between planets and stars are no longer something incredible thanks to a special technology - mass relays. Traveling through the Milky Way, people discovered many other civilizations that were not particularly behind in development. Together they created the Galactic Council, whose main headquarters was space station"Citadel".

Series Mass games Effect tells us about a character with the last name Shepard, who, depending on the player's choice, can be male or female. He commands a large ship with a loyal crew, ready to do anything to maintain peace in the galaxy.

In the third part, the heroes again need to save the world, now from the dark race of reapers, known throughout the universe for their malicious behavior - these monsters destroy planet after planet, subjugate worlds and use the extracted resources. Now on their way solar system and ours native land. In the shortest possible time, Captain Shepard must (or should) gather allies to fight the invading army. Depending on certain actions of the player, races will go over to his side. If everything is done correctly, at the end of the game the reapers, instead of defenseless earthlings, will see the innumerable space fleet of the Alliance in front of them and will be defeated. But everything has its time.

In terms of gameplay, what awaits us here is interesting story with elaborate cut scenes, leveling up characters and their relationships with others, as well as on different planets, where you will have to eliminate bloodthirsty enemies one by one. The replay value here is at its best, as in the first two parts. Therefore, even after completing the game for the first time, you can safely start it again and go through a different path, getting completely different impressions from the gameplay. Graphically, everything is fine here too - you believe what is happening and you don’t get the feeling that the developers were lazy. From the first frames to the finale, you want to continue without stopping and empathize with the characters.

Fable III - Revolution and Consequences

In the third part of the famous RPG, we learn about events that take place 50 years after the plot of the second game. The old king, who was the hero of the second part, died, and his son Logan ascended the throne. The new main character becomes the younger brother (or sister, depending on the choice) of the king, having the status of heir. The relationship between the king and the protagonist becomes tense, after which the latter escapes and begins to look for allies to start a revolution. The king turns into a tyrant and becomes a huge problem for the kingdom. But everything turns out to be not so simple. The ruler is cruel not of his own free will - he has learned about the imminent invasion of the dark army and is trying to gather as many forces as possible to fight it. After a successful revolution, the player will need to decide:
- fulfill the promises made to the allies in the revolution and leave the kingdom weak;
- or turn into the same tyrant and be fully armed when darkness comes.

Upon release, the game received almost only positive reviews from critics, and the gaming community received it with delight. Among the platforms, it was first released on Xbox 360 and Playstation, and a year later on PC.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim - The Dragonborn is ready for battle!

The latest part of The Elder Scrolls is similar in style to the third Witcher. Both games take place in an alternate Middle Ages, where magic and dark forces interfere with the lives of ordinary people. In Skyrim you can meet a variety of monsters and guests from the other world. If at first it seems that villages and cities inhabited by people will be the only thing that will be encountered on the hero’s path, then later we meet giants, dire wolves, and in the nearest cave we are attacked by skeletons with bows and magic spells.

And these are just flowers, because later in the story we will see dragons for the second time after the introduction - majestic creatures that circle at great heights and descend only to strike the enemy. If other warriors are not able to cope with such flying “tanks,” then the main character has several ways in stock. One of them is the famous spell “Fus Ro Dah!”, from which any enemy is thrown back several meters and receives a colossal dose of damage.

But that's not why we love Skyrim. It appealed to many gamers and was remembered forever due to its atmosphere. We take control of a medieval warrior and go on a journey through a huge world with different characters, adventures, tasks, dangerous situations. This is literally a whole life that you need to live on your computer screen.

Fable 2

We start with a rather old, but not yet completely dead game from 2008. Many gamers, especially young ones, have either not heard anything about it at all, or have heard, but little. Someone even tried to play the very last, third part. And in vain. The third is a complete hack: a mockery of the series. You need to play the first or second, which, in my opinion, turned out best. How is this game similar to the third Witcher?

Firstly, there is a relatively large, really open world: a kind of mixture of some kind of gingerbread fairy tale, steampunk, Victorian England and classic dark fantasy. Secondly, it’s real here cool story with intrigue, unexpected twists, tons of characters and a wealth of choice.

This could easily be used as a movie. Otherwise: good, albeit simple, battles, tolerable, although rather outdated graphics, and a boy character in whose body an adult hero lives.

Gothic 3

To be honest, the second part, in my opinion, is much better. But! The fact is that she is already really middle-aged: 2002. Therefore, the third part will be offered as a sample, which is much younger, larger, more beautiful, although slightly departed from the canons.

Here you have an open world, a plot, leveling up, obtaining equipment and even more or less acceptable battles, although, in fact, if you are not delighted with the combat mechanics of the second Witcher, then the battles in Gothic will seem clumsy to you. However, the game has soul and a unique style (especially the second part).

The hero lands on the shores of the mainland, consisting of three impressive parts, where his adventures begin. All this is stuffed with fifty magic spells, the same number of types of enemies, a hundred types of weapons and three options for passing, which depend on the choice of the player: on who he joins and who he decides to help.

Risen 3: Titan Lords

This game was made by almost the same team that made Gothic, so the obvious similarities should not surprise you. This story also begins on a foreign shore, where the main character, an experienced pirate, finds himself. Here you can find a pretty good and understandable combat system, an abundance of relatively non-linear dialogues, and, of course, an open world, with one serious drawback: the areas here are open only in theory.

Technically, they are blocked either by some kind of gate or by especially strong enemies, who are almost impossible to defeat without properly leveling up. Otherwise, the game has a strong pirate theme. Moreover, this is one of the most pirated video games ever released in the entire history of the gaming industry.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

There hasn't been a single game since the third Witcher that fans of the Witcher universe didn't have so much hope for. Well, of course: the game is also being made in Eastern Europe - in the Czech Republic. It promised to have a unique combat system, as well as the right atmosphere of medieval Europe, torn apart by feudal wars.

Only this time there is no Nilfgaard or Temeria with magic, arch-griffins and witchers on the premises. Everything is as realistic as possible. Unfortunately, the project did not live up to expectations, but it is also impossible to say that it turned out to be completely out of the ordinary.

The main character, a simple son of a blacksmith, is mortally offended by one of the feudal lords, whose army killed his family. And so, yesterday’s village hooligan is forced to flee from his home to a neighboring castle in order to stand under the banner of the local leader, and ultimately bring him to the royal throne the right person. In scale, of course, it’s never The Witcher, but for fans of the European military history, you should like the game.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen

Is this game similar to The Witcher enough to put it on our hit parade? In my opinion, yes. Of course, it's Japanese, which will disappoint many. Also, in its atmosphere it is more similar to Dark Souls than The Witcher, but there is an open, dark fantasy world, there is an outstanding story with a single player campaign, there is quite a variety of leveling, and also truly different types of enemies that require a different approach. . The battles are quite simple and a little clumsy, but, as already mentioned, they require ingenuity and dexterity. Not Dark Souls, of course, but you won’t be able to summon most enemies just like that.

Perhaps, not without reason, it seems to you that the hero is not so sincere, and in comparison with the same Geralt, he is simply faceless, but on the other hand, this helps some to better get used to the role, identifying themselves with someone who does not have such charisma as Geralt. If you like the game, be sure to join Monster Hunter World.

Vampyr

The first on our list is not exactly a classic fantasy, but, nevertheless, also falls well within the established framework. In the end, the dark vampire story in England, Victorian times, is also a fairy tale, and therefore fantasy. But in fact, the canons are respected: the world is open, the hero is a white man who received his abilities after a mutation, there are dialogues, non-linearity too, battles with jumping. There are many more coincidences than might seem at first glance.

Moreover, Geralt also had to communicate closely with vampires, and some, like Regis, were even his friends. The only problem is morality: while Geralt is the absolute personification of good, Jonathan, to put it mildly, is not entirely good. Not good, but not definitely evil, although he can become one if the players want blood. In general, this is a good action game, which is greatly spoiled by the lack of Russian dubbing and not the most expressive combat mechanics.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Believe it or not, one of the favorite pastimes of American gamers is to compare The Witcher and Inquisition, weighing the pros and cons, and figuring out which is better. Usually, overseas video game fans don't care about European game girls. Well, then something happened that cannot be ignored, so they have some kind of complex: how can it be that the best open-world fantasy role-playing game was not made by them. However, we digress.

Inquisition has everything that The Witcher has, but everything is a little worse: the plot is not as branched, the side quests are not as interesting, the battles are not as hot, the characters are not as bright, the world is not so beautiful and big. But all these “nots” are just a minor convention for those who want to plunge into a new multi-hour fairy tale about evil sorcerers, arrogant elves, dense forests and dangerous caves in which terrible monsters live. Politics, sex and some kind of morality are also present here.

Horizon: Zero Dawn

And another non-canonical fantasy. Some find it possible to distinguish fantasy from science fiction, although in fact both are fairy tales, just in slightly different atmospheres. Otherwise, everything is very similar, with the only exception that the main character here is a girl, and her main enemies are mainly robots of different stripes.

And, yes - one more thing - this is an exclusive for PlayStation 4: the only one in our hit parade. There is a post-apocalypse around.

Humanity is thrown back into something like Stone Age, only not simple, but on the remnants of a former highly developed civilization, so that sometimes some particularly savvy savage managed to pick out some kind of transformer from a damaged robot, with the help of which his stone ax on finger batteries began to hit a little more powerfully.

The main character will have to do something similar throughout the game: hunt and design. Well, the plot of this game is also based on a secret that the heroine will slowly begin to reveal when she discovers one unexpected location.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

Of course, how can we do without the Elder Scrolls? There are many ways to view this game, explaining that it is more casual than Morrowind, that its main plot is actually obscenely linear, and that the combat system is very limited. However, the game is actually a cult one, managing to remain extremely relevant even now, many years after its release.

The open, dark fantasy world lives its own difficult life. Its inhabitants survive as best they can. Well, then the revolution began, and besides, the dragons awakened, and the main character, contrary to his wishes, will have to shoulder the full responsibility of solving all global challenges in the vastness of Tamriel. An open world, a huge number of quests, a certain non-linearity, complete freedom of action, excellent Russification and quite tolerable graphics, if you put additional mods– that’s what this action game has in common with The Witcher.

Assassin's Creed Origins

Well, the gold of our hit parade goes to the most ambitious, most beautiful, freshest and largest project of all those previously listed. There is a huge, open world. There is political intrigue, sex with beautiful girls and mysticism. Fights with epic bosses There is. There is freedom of action. We can swim, pumping is present, even excessive. An analogue of Roach is also available.

The picture, although not as exciting as in The Witcher, is also okay. There are plenty of secondary tasks, nonlinearity is present, and most importantly: if you remember this series from the old parts, then it’s time to change your mind, because in the new part there was a powerful revision of views, which is why the combat mechanics have become very, very similar to the Witcher. And in the future part, which is Odyssey, the similarities between these two games will only become greater.

that we have collected on this page include other RPGs with dark fantasy medieval settings that will immerse the player in their amazingly atmospheric game worlds. Arcania: Gothic 4 (or simply Arcania) continues the Gothic series of games. It departs from the previous one game setting in the Gothic series and instead brings the game's action to an island with an impressive variety of game settings. In Gothic 4 the plot leaves much to be desired; it is very dry and for the most part has the standard storyline, which doesn't really pique your interest and can lead to confusion.

Risen 2 pirate theme is its strong point and definitely makes you feel like you're a pirate. The world is freely based in the Caribbean, and the fact that the gameplay is developing on its territory makes the game even more attractive.
