Plot

The action takes place in the fantasy world of Sarnaut, which suffered from an unknown cataclysm a thousand years ago. Large-scale destruction led to the country being broken into several parts, many of which are now “floating in the air.” Those who managed to survive built special ships capable of traveling through the air to maintain communication with each other and search for treasures and ancient artifacts. Over time, the celestial travelers received the nickname "Flying Pirates".

Gameplay

Gameplay of the game “Pirates. Storming the Skies" is based on conducting air battles with control of combat vessels. Players can play as lone sea wolves or form a squadron to work with other pirates to plunder the remnants of the former glory of the world of Sarnaut. Playing as a team brings certain benefits, as powerful enemies can only be defeated by using the unique characteristics of individual team members and combining firepower.

You will have several classes of ships at your disposal, differing not only in appearance, but also in statistics, as well as in their ability to maneuver. At the same time, all combat vehicles have both positive and negative sides. For example, large and clumsy ships can take more damage, while galleons that stay at a great distance can fire accurate sniper fire at the enemy, but will be highly vulnerable to enemy shells.

The combat system of the game “Pirates. Storming the Skies" resembles a mixture of , and a regular online shooter like Quake 3 or Overwatch due to its dynamics. Dreadnought- This is a kind of MOBA mode. Each team has a large ship called a Dreadnought, which constantly moves along a predetermined trajectory. To win, you must destroy the enemy's Dreadnought before yours is destroyed.

Improvement

In exchange for winning, players will receive experience points and gold, which can be spent on upgrades for their ships, as well as to improve the skill of the captain and crew. Because the key to victory lies not only in skillful control and accurate shooting, but also in properly equipping the ship with additional equipment to activate unique combat skills, such as invisibility or teleportation. Multiplayer battles take place in various locations. Sometimes they are the ruins of ancient civilizations, and sometimes they are beautiful landscapes of a levitating island. One way or another, fans of the MMORPG Allods Online should recognize familiar locations and places, at least from a bird's eye view.

However, the quality of many textures leaves much to be desired and is still far from ideal. At the same time, the visual design of the game locations is done at the highest level, and already at this stage you can fully experience the fabulous atmosphere of the world of Sarnaut.

The situation with the appearance of combat units is much better. The creators tried to make the ships both classic, with a mast and pennants, and more modern due to futuristic devices and modules. As a result of this decision, air frigates more closely resemble space opera vehicles.

At the same time, it should be noted that the developers paid great attention to the smallest details. This is evident both in the small patches of rope holding the mast up and in the display of powerful rocket engines. The Allods Team studio, using relatively simple gameplay mechanics and seasoning it with pleasant graphic design, created a game that should appeal to both fans of the legendary Allods and people who are not at all familiar with this universe. After all, you must admit that many of us dreamed of our own flying ship.

"Pirates: Storm the Sky", previously announced under the title "Pirates. Allods Online" is a new game from Allods Team, the events of which unfold in the universe of the MMORPG of the same name.

But instead of the usual running around the map and leveling up heroes, here the player is invited to take the helm of huge flying ships and fight the enemy in the air, plunging into a series of short dynamic fights.

To get an idea of what normal combat looks like in Pirates, just imagine the characters from Overwatch moving into class-appropriate airships. The Zorkiy sniper galleon hides in an inconspicuous corner between the rocks and shoots the enemy from a great distance - just like the Widow. The support clipper "Victoria" follows the ally's ship, continuously repairing it - why not an Angel? “Pirates” even has its own Tornbjorn - the engineering frigate “Hammer”, which can install defensive turrets.

There are currently 48 ships in the game. Some - well-armored, clumsy, but with a huge supply of health and powerful weapons - are good for beginners to play: the cost of a mistake is not so high and you won’t be knocked down with a single shot. There are boats with average characteristics that are suitable for those who value balance. And for the aces - small sailing ships, the main trick of which is to get almost close to the enemy ship, fire a salvo that will blow away half the side, and quickly escape. But if you don’t have time to maneuver, you’ll most likely pay with your life.

But the similarities with Overwatch don't end with the ship classes alone. The game has very compact maps and short battles: a maximum of 15 minutes for each battle. If your ship gets shot at, it will be out of the fight for a few seconds, and then it will take you another 10-20 seconds to get to the scene of the fight. Even the modes are similar: in addition to the standard ones, Overwatch has truck escort, and Pirates has caravan guarding (or robbery).

Well, and probably the most important thing, which finally takes “Pirates” out of the ranks of military shooters on serious grounds, is that there are no complex physics here. An inexperienced player may not notice this, but veterans of battles in WoT and similar games will immediately notice that cannonballs fired from the side of your ship fly in a straight line, and not in an arc. There are no calculations of penetration coefficients in the forehead and lower armor plate, and you do not need to know anything about hull armor - just understand that you are covered by an energy shield on each side, and it is destroyed when they shoot at you.

The whole fight is built on three buttons: if you fire on the left side, don’t be open and turn right, simultaneously firing torpedoes from the bow guns. The enemy is also unlikely to hang indifferently in the air - damaged energy shields must be removed from fire in time, so a duel between two airships resembles a waltz: you spin in three planes, guessing each other’s movements and trying your best to keep up with the rhythm of reloading guns

But duels are a rather rare phenomenon in a team shooter: it is much more interesting to play, taking advantage of all the advantages of your allies and using their help. Therefore, the most important thing for someone who wants to conquer the top and enter the list of the best pirates is to study the abilities of each ship and remember who works best in conjunction with whom. And now it’s time to finally say that in fact “Pirates” is far from the simplest game. When you have completed the first ten battles and it begins to seem to you that you have more or less figured out what to expect from each sailing ship, your opponents will begin to present surprises.

The fact is that each ship has its own unique tricks available, and not all of them are open from the very beginning: to access the most interesting ones you will have to fly a lot and loot gold. At the same time, the appearance of the ship does not reflect in any way that it, for example, can suddenly teleport halfway across the map or hang protective force screens, avoiding certain death. The same engineer, instead of turrets, can produce repair probes - and this is a completely different role in the team.

At the same time, in the Pirates universe there are no harmless ships - even a support ship can cause damage and make frags. In addition, the system takes into account all your actions that led to the victory of the team, and therefore the top best every now and then are not the brightest fighters, but hard-working engineers who did nothing but repair their allies.

You can play “Pirates” for free; in the game store for real money you can currently only buy a premium account, which gives more experience and gold for battles. Additional damage and protection are not sold for money, there are no premium cartridges for weapons in the store either - everything is fair.

In its current form, “Pirates” is a fast, fun and not demanding of your time or the power of your computer, an online team shooter in which you can take the helm of a flying ship and show everyone who the main pirate is. But this is only the first stage in the development of the game. Now the pirates are mastering the game, finding friends, uniting in military brotherhoods and accumulating resources that they will very soon need to build their own forts. And then these forts can be captured - and in “Pirates” a political game will begin at the level of large MMOs: with the conclusion of alliances and declarations of war, sending spies, betrayal and help. If you want to come to this war fully armed - with a full hold of piastres and a team of good friends - you need to start playing as soon as possible.

More than once have you asked yourself: “What about premium ships? Should I take them? Do they cause imbalance?. Such thoughts were in my head too, but after meeting these two monsters, all questions disappeared. Even more, answers have appeared, which I will share with you today.

1) Avenger. Second rank. Heavy battleship

First, I will take a level 2 Avenger for the Khadagan – Empire race as a test subject. To hell with your Iron Man, Captain America and Thor, here he acts under all these pseudonyms "Heavy battleship". The main advantage is that upon purchase, all abilities and guns are immediately unlocked.

There is a choice: normal forward teleportation "Impulse shift"; "Protective Barrier", which cools the bow guns and surrounds the battleship with a shield; "Emergency Repair", restoring the ship's hull by 25%; "Incendiary Torpedo", causing a fire on the enemy's deck; "Loading guns", capable of cooling the guns by 40% for 4 seconds and "Tactical module", he, in turn, supports allies, increasing damage by 25% and slowing down opponents by the same amount.

A premium ship cannot boast of a large selection of weapons - there is only one type of weapon at a time. On board, the Avenger destroys enemies with a salvo from all cannons at once, and if one shell misses, the rest will overtake the enemy.

One of the bow cannons is very powerful, but the player’s accuracy skill must be well pumped up, because the gun immediately heats up to 100% and it is necessary to "cool the fucking". But, as I already mentioned, it can be replaced with another, for example, a torpedo gun "Mace", which after three hits reduces the target's speed by 50%, and "Crow" restores the body due to this damage, and it is he who experiences severe overheating.

Advantages

I can already hear screams from all over Russia and the CIS countries “YES THIS IS STILL A HARD DONAT! YOU BUY YOURSELF A SHIP AND YOU’RE BENDING EVERYONE!”. Believe my experience, you will die again and again and again... For a clear example, let’s take "Hurricane"– the same "Heavy battleship" Level 2, but obtained in-game. After reading a bunch of literature on the topic of comparison, I came to the conclusion that the basic characteristics of the ships are the same.

What was surprising was the presence of "non-donat" The ship has 9 skills, 12 side guns and 8 bow ones. Those. There is room to experiment and improve the ship, and this does not take into account the installation of equipment.

Total: I agree that the equipment of the Avenger ship is far from starting, everything is already well upgraded. This is a definite plus that saves time. If you improve everything from your brother "Hurricane", it will turn out a little worse. Still, the game is decided by hands, so premium ships cannot be called “unsinkable”.

Why all this?

Again these screams, should they take some pills: “WHY BUY THEM THEN?”. The answer is banal: there are people who do not want to develop from the very bottom, gradually increasing their skill. is a session game, there is no open world. Therefore, under the pressure of work/study/screaming wife, these people are forced to spend less time sitting at the PC, go to a couple of fights and get their share of the fun.

In addition, in this way you can quickly break into new ranks, earning free experience and gold coins to simultaneously upgrade other ships. In high-level battles there is a place for tactics, not just curiosity "how does this game work".

I’ll summarize the idea by saying that any project at the first levels stands out for its stupid teammates. Those players who have already realized the whole structure of the world and the balance of the game, quickly want to meet worthy enemies, and not just another "Leeroyev Jenkensov", going to Valhalla in the first seconds and setting up the entire team.

2) Interceptor. Third rank. Medium frigate

Having understood all the intricacies and shown you the true ins and outs of such ships, we can continue. At the moment there is one more donation horse in the game. Only her rank is already 3rd and she acts as "Medium Frigate" from the race Kania - League (if anything, these are also people, but because of the conflict they are for another faction).

On board There was again a place to put the interceptor: a teleporting module "Spatial Leap"; swarm of missiles "Torpedo salvo", dealing a good amount of damage (plus auto-aiming); something similar called "Pulsar", only there is one rocket and there is little damage, but the weakening of the enemy is added to this. "Hull Repair"– one of the most useful abilities, instantly restoring 1/4 of your health, and the rest within 15 seconds.

The last two skills summon assistants: "Defense Turret" knows how to summon a drone, which damages allies, increases their maneuverability and in general he is a cool guy, and "Torpedo-Drone" flies at the enemy and fires at him for 30 seconds.

In terms of armament, everything is the old-fashioned way: the onboard gun can fire one at a time and also slow down the enemy without much overheating, and to replace it there is a cannon, where the guns are loaded at 100% and fire a salvo from all barrels, dealing good damage to modules. The main guns can slow down the enemy - only one deals a lot of damage and disables tactical modules, and the second can fire quickly.

Conclusions

As you may have noticed, the main benefit of purchasing premium ships is that you won’t have to upgrade your equipment from scratch. These are ready-made kits for the lazy. And so, in the right hands, any ship can become hell for others on the battlefield. So if you have recently started your Pirates flights, no one will judge you for such a purchase. You will develop just a little faster and will enjoy the daily life of a pirate among high-ranking players. But sooner or later you will have to delve into the subtleties of mechanics.

Speaking of what you need to buy first. If you compare ships with each other, then nothing will come of it. The Avenger is more like a tank and is always eager to fight. The Interceptor does not have good armor, but it is capable of hurting the enemy and supporting allies in difficult times. Before purchasing, decide what exactly you want.
