The Great Patriotic War is the largest and most violent conflict not only in the history of Russia, but also in the history of the whole world. In addition, it is also the main theme on the basis of which many computer games. World War II shooters were the very first 3D shooters in the history of the gaming industry.

Medal of Valor

In the 90s of the last century, a new game project called Medal of honor was released to players. Steven Spielberg himself, who gave the world many film masterpieces, took part in the work on the game.

Since then, games in the series have been released on seemingly every platform that can be played on. In addition, "Medal" is a shooter about the war of 1941-1945, which has the largest number of games in its series.

The most interesting part of the series is Allien Assault. In it you will have to get used to the role of Lieutenant Powell, who served in the US BCC strategic service. In general, in different games series, the main character is not the same person, which allows the developers to play out this military conflict from different angles.

Among other things, it is impossible not to mention: the Medal of Honor series includes a shooter about the First World War.

Game Features

Medal of honor will introduce gamers to different parts of the world where military operations took place. Characters perform various tasks: penetration into enemy territory as a scout, sabotage, espionage, sabotage, night landing, storming fortified areas, blowing up bridges. In the game you can control various equipment.

The shooters about the Second World War are connected by plot, although not in one line; many characters are not only mentioned in different parts, but also appear in them repeatedly.

Playing older FPS series can be just as enjoyable as playing the latest ones, because they were developed with the utmost attention to quality. It is possible to complete the missions of each game in several ways, which allows you to enjoy participating in virtual military operations when restarting.

Call of Duty

When describing shooters about the Great Patriotic War, this game could not be ignored. It is the most popular of the existing ones. The series has great similarities with Medal of honor, but Call of Duty has a more impressive fan base.

A few words about the plot

The plot of almost every game is structured in such a way that the player has to start each new episode in a new place. Perhaps the gamer will only move to another city, or perhaps to another point on the globe. Also, each chapter will have to be played as a new main character.

This state of affairs allows us to consider all situations of military conflict from a variety of angles, to understand that not everything is simple. While playing through the games, gamers will find themselves in Stalingrad, Latvia, winter Moscow, and the Reichstag; they will have to visit the V-2 launch silos and the gardens of Japan.

Nonsense in Call of Duty

A few words need to be said about the blunders of the development team, of which there are plenty here. At first, the shoulder straps on Soviet uniforms in the missions of 1942 will catch your eye, but they were adopted after the Battle of Stalingrad. In the same year, you will be able to see the StG 44. A weapon that is unusual for our army, such as a machete, will add some flavor to the Russian soldier. In one of the chapters, the Allied forces capture it, although in reality it was hit by torpedoes. On some textures you can see the USSR flag, but not the one we are used to, but drawn upside down.

The Call of Duty World War II shooters can keep the player engaged for many hours, but they are not perfect and often receive harsh criticism. First of all, it is necessary to mention the monotony of the gameplay. The protagonist is almost always introduced team player, single missions are very rare. Your partners will always be there, they are either impossible to kill (if they receive enough damage, they will stop acting actively, but only for a while), or another one will immediately take the place of the killed squad member. Reviving teammates will not stop until the player reaches the checkpoint.

Brothers in Arms

About the Second World War are presented not only classic games This genre also has a branch in which tactics play a big role. Brothers in Arms will force the gamer to nervously turn off the computer if there is no logic in his action.

Here you need not only to shoot, but also to think, and the second is more important than the first. The player will have to take control of a small squad. Since the squad is small in number, it is better to eliminate the loss of fighters if possible. Having thrown everyone into the crossfire, the mission will most likely need to start over, first deciding how to outflank the enemy.

The variety of locations will not let you get bored: battles will take place on city streets, in fields, villages, inside. Opponents will also not be the same, therefore, tactics will have to be chosen for each situation separately: perhaps a small group of lightly armed soldiers will barricade themselves in a building, and then the game will force you to join into a fight with a regiment of troops who have undergone special training.

UberSoldier

There are also shooters about World War II developed in Russia. One of the best among them is considered to be “Eastern Front” (in the West the product was released under the name UberSoldier). The studio that had a hand in creating the game is located in Voronezh and calls itself Burut CT.

The plot for a product created in Russia can be called strange. It is all played out around the resurrection of Germans killed in battle. A scientist who works in secret bunkers conducts experiments on dead soldiers, trying to resurrect them. He is up to the task, but there is a small catch - the resurrected only follow the orders of the person they saw first after the operation. After his awakening, Karl Stoltz saw not the professor, but Maria, who was a member of the resistance. She ordered him to save himself, which is what he did, but he realized that remaining on the side of the Nazis was too dangerous, and joined the members of Maria’s detachment.

The shooters about World War 2 from the UberSoldier series will feature Karl as the main character. And in both parts of the game he will be on the side of the German resistance. The plans of him and his partners are to seize secret laboratories (in which Stoltz was resurrected) and then destroy them.

War is not an obstacle to love

Karl's story will not be limited to military actions alone. There is a place for romance in the plot. The main character will find love; as you might guess, Maria will become his passion. Subsequently, she will die, but Stolz will not lose hope (after all, the first goal of the resistance is to capture the bunkers where the dead are resurrected). The ending of the first part will consist of a battle with the most dangerous adversary for the entire game - the latest version universal soldier. But new version does not mean that it is better than the old model. Survive and win is Karl's motto. After victory, our hero will receive the reward he was striving for. He will resurrect Mary.

In the second part, the gamer will meet old characters. The scientist who began the work of resurrecting the dead will himself be in the role of the rebel, but this time Karl will end him forever.

Wolfenstein

Games based on the events of the Second World War also include those whose plot is based on alternative history. Examples include Wolfenstein, one of the most striking games with a similar scenario. The first part was released back in 1981, the hero performed feats in a two-dimensional world. And it’s difficult to call that game a shooter; it was more of a stealth action game.

1992 was marked by the purchase of the rights to the name "Wolfenstein" by the idSoftware corporation to create a three-dimensional game. If a modern user looks at the resulting product, he will not understand why Wolfenstein 3D has become so popular. It must be said that at the time of launch the game had no analogues - this shooter about the war of 1941-1945 presents the player with a world from the first person of the hero, something like this has never been seen anywhere before. Three-dimensional images were also an infrequent guest in computers.

Over and over again, shooters about World War 2 called Wolfenstein were released, and in each new one the plot was similar to the one that could be seen in the previous one. The end of the 90s came, and IDsoftware management decided that the topic had become obsolete. Now the emphasis was on fantasy. It will be no secret to anyone that secret laboratories The Ahnenerbe hosted scientists involved in the study. Hitler himself supported their endeavors. All historians believe that it was his passion for the occult that pushed him to start a war, wanting omnipotence.

Return to the castle

Returnt to the Castle Wolfenstein made idSoftware's world war shooters unlike any other game. The beginning of the story implies that everything will be the same as many times in a row, but earlier. The player tries to sneak into the castle, but is discovered. It seems that only a miracle helps to escape from the building safe and almost unharmed.

This is where the main events begin. The main character will go through fire, water and copper pipes, he will have to visit many locations teeming with enemies, eliminate scientists, soldiers and zombies. But it’s too early to relax. The gamer will again receive the task that he failed at the very beginning.

The most interesting thing is that the story takes place after the war. And what is happening before our eyes are attempts to start a conflict once again, but using magical powers and occult knowledge as weapons.

In the last part of the series, the hero will receive a new name and a new appearance, the rendering of which is the responsibility of the most modern achievements in the field computer graphics. The plot cannot be called fresh enough. An American intelligence agent kills villains with any weapon he can get his hands on. The Nazis are dying, the hero goes on vacation, waiting for the next part to come out with a story about his adventures.

Battlefield 1942

Shooters about World War 2 are represented not only by single-player games. Some of them include multiplayer ones, for example Battlefield. And we can advise many developers to follow the Digital Illusions CE path. It’s not for nothing that this team shooter is called the standard.

The war will unfold in completely different parts of our planet, Japan, the Eastern Front, the Pacific region, and Africa are represented here. This is in addition to those locations that players are accustomed to seeing in similar products. Shooters about the Second World War of the Battlefield series present the player with five classes of soldiers to choose from before the battle. The choice will determine what role the virtual soldier will play in the theater of operations and what weapons he will be able to carry.

The technology deserves a special mention. It is represented by many samples. There is everyone's favorite thirty-four - a victory tank, armored cars from different countries, boats for moving on water, and those who do not want to "crawl" can board a plane.

World War II has always been a popular setting, especially in video games. This topic has been covered in all known genres, from first-person shooters, which have become fewer in number lately, to real-time strategies, which, on the contrary, are thriving.

This list includes 17 games (not counting add-ons) in the real-time strategy genre that in one way or another touch on the theme of World War II. Here there are representatives of such already beloved series as Company of Heroes, Blitzkrieg and Codename Panzers, as well as their less famous comrades. All of them demonstrate how large-scale the battles and campaigns were in that war - both in the east of Europe and in the western territories.

Here are the best WWII RTS games for PC

1. Company of Heroes

The game allows you to experience first-hand all the rapidity of action in World War II - from the Normandy operation to the division of Germany and beyond. Company of Heroes includes a deeply developed single-player campaign, and intense multiplayer, in which you can play as Americans or Germans, will not make you bored. There is also a gold edition: it contains both original game, and a separate extension Opposing Fronts.

2. Codename: Panzers, Phase Two

Codename Panzers, Phase Two will transfer you to the southern fronts: Africa, Italy, southern Europe, the Balkans... You have at your disposal troops of both the Hitler and anti-Hitler coalitions - and even the Yugoslav resistance. Two combo packs were published: Commander's Edition And Platinum Edition, which includes both parts Panzers: Phase One and Phase Two.

3. Hearts of Iron III

Hearts of Iron III is currently the largest strategy game based on the Second World War. It is unique in that the player can control absolutely any nation that existed in 1936–1945. Hearts of Iron III continues the proud tradition of the series, famous for its economic system: you can achieve success in any industry, closely involved in manufacturing, technology, research, politics... Create your own superpower. Believe me, it will look great on a uniquely designed card.

4. Company of Heroes 2

Company of Heroes 2- the most expected and, probably, discussed strategy in the recent past. The reason for the controversy: “Does she deserve to be called the best of all time?” That is, you already understand what to expect. In this game you will find yourself on the eastern front - the bloodiest in history, where the largest battles took place, some of which few will even remember. There are two options: either you play as Russia, trying to stop Germany's attempts to invade the USSR, or you take part in competitions in multiplayer. In any case, it will be fun!

5. Soldiers: Heroes of World War II

Soldiers: Heroes of World War II will put elite special forces of American, British, German or Russian troops into your hands. You will have a lot of fun, because you will be sent behind enemy lines - there you will have to strain yourself, using all available types of sabotage to undermine the enemy’s forces.

6. Codename: Panzers, Phase One

IN Codename: Panzers you have to lead German army at the very beginning of World War II - during a surprise attack on Poland. It will be fun to play - this will be facilitated by excellent three-dimensional graphics and intuitive controls. Panzers Phase One will allow you to play for the troops of the anti-Hitler coalition, if you wish. Two deluxe editions are available: Commander's Edition and Platinum Edition, which includes Panzers Phase One and Phase Two.

7. Men of War: Assault Squad 2

Release date: May 15, 2014

Part of the series: Men of War

This is the eighth game in the Men of War series, and is considered the best since Soldiers: Heroes of World War II. Assault Squad 2 contains several multiplayer modes, ranging from 1-on-1 to 8-on-8. At the same time, the variety of cards is impressive - there are different ones for each number of players. The graphics and gameplay have been completely redesigned, so they are radically different from those in previous parts of the series. And 15 single-player missions and 25 additional battles, taken from the original Men of War: Assault Squad and rethought from the ground up, will not leave anyone indifferent.

Multiplayer has 65 maps, five modes, more than 250 different types transport, 200 soldier specializations... After that, it’s not even that surprising that you can play for five different factions from the Second World War. And the battlefield will be prototypes of real famous battles in Eastern and Western Europe, North Africa and the Pacific Ocean.

8. Combat Mission Anthology

Anthology Combat Mission includes all three games from the series Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, Barbarossa to Berlin And Africa Corps. Believe me, they are all worth checking out, especially if you are a connoisseur of both turn-based and real-time tactics.

9. Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts

Opposing Fronts- a separate addition for the “Oscar-winning” Company of Heroes. In other words, you don't need the original game to appreciate the brilliance of Opposing Fronts. Two new factions have been added here: the British and a certain Panzer Elite. I advise you to get out of the tanks - this is a special German unit for fast travel on the map.

10. Order of War

Summer 1944. The eastern and western fronts are getting closer to the borders of Germany. Take on the role of America, advancing on Berlin from the West, or realize that it is also within your power to at least try to help the collapsing Third Reich stop the Red Army in the east. Use all resources: thousands of soldiers, tanks and fighters are at your disposal.

11. Rush for Berlin

Actions Rush for Berlin takes place in the final months of the war, as the Allies and Soviet Union began their final offensive against Berlin. You can play for either side: who knows, maybe you will surpass Hitler and be able to repel the attack of enemy forces? Well, if the main campaign is not enough for you, the developers have also released an extension - Rush for the Bomb. And the gold edition has both.

12. Blitzkrieg 2

Release date: October 2, 2005
Rating: 12+
Modes: single player, multiplayer
Part of the series: Blitzkrieg

Blitzkrieg 2 is a highly improved version of the original Blitzkrieg. She inherited the main elements game mechanics, however, all irregularities and roughness are smoothed out. And, of course, the developers are worthless if they didn’t better graphics- and she did.

In general, you will once again have to carefully plan your operations, and then lead your regiments into battle - whether for the Soviet side, the American or the German. Three single player campaigns cover all the places and times of all the battles, and combined with hundreds of different units... This game can be played forever.

Add-ons also available Liberation And Fall of the Reich- very large-scale. Well, there is something like a season pass - Strategy Pack, only it only includes the original campaign and Fall of the Reich. No, we would like everything at once.

13. Commandos 3: Destination Berlin

Commandos 3: Destination Berlin brilliantly took up the baton from Commandos 2, opening up three wonderful campaigns with secret and not-so-secret missions for players. And the ability to control a small squad of elite US special forces soldiers, snipers, submariners...

14. Men of War

Men of War is a sequel to another World War II strategy game called Faces of War. And in this sequel you will see everything: various missions and campaigns in Europe, Soviet Union, Greece and even North Africa. Three storylines will tell you the history of the Allies of World War II, the Third Reich and the Soviet Union. And in multiplayer you can even play for the Japanese Empire.

15. War Front: Turning Point

War Front: Turning Point- the game is non-standard, if only because as a result of the historical story campaign you can come to an unhistorical ending. Choose a side: you have the power to lead the troops of both the anti-Hitler coalition and the Nazi bloc to victory. However, to win this war, you will definitely have to command armies, use experimental weapons and equipment.

16. Blitzkrieg

Blitzkrieg will allow you to play as any of the three main forces of World War II. They did a great job on it: there are more than two hundred different units alone. Edition The Blitzkrieg Anthology includes the main campaign plus two expansion packs: Blitzkrieg: Rolling Thunder And Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon. And also a bonus storyline Iron Division, consisting of 16 missions, and four maps for multiplayer.

17. Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor

Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor- this is the second separate addition for another game about World War II, Company of Heroes. It includes three new single-player campaigns and adds several features typical for strategy games to both single-player and multiplayer: new units, maps and online game modes.

The theme of war did not go unnoticed by game developers. Since the times of Doom and Quake, it has begun to actively develop, and today there is an extensive base of gaming military projects. The developers use the latest technologies, which allows you to diversify the gameplay and achieve realism in all mechanics.

Verdun is a realistic first-person shooter. The player is invited to go through several difficult missions, which take place in trenches, on endless fields and other places of heated battles. The realism is impressive - the player can die from one bullet.

What do the missions look like? For example, your task is to conquer a neighboring trench. This is easy to do in Call of Duty, but Verdun will make you tense up. Enemies are waiting in ambush, there are many traps on the way, and without tactics and good reactions you will not be able to move the front line even a couple of meters.

Free-to-play multiplayer game Rise of Flight opens up the vast skies to intense battles. There are 30 well-designed aircraft to choose from, each with a unique physical control model. Realistic controls will give not only new emotions, but also various difficulties - it is unlikely that you will be able to fly off the runway the first time.

Lots of action, varied combat and beautiful scenery are some of the many advantages of Rise of Flight.

The game, which has won honorable awards, is capable of impressing every player, regardless of preferences. The puzzle quest Valiant Hearts: The Great War tells the story of “little” people whose destinies were intertwined in the First World War.

Relatives from a French family will meet on the battlefield, but different sides. The gloomy American Freddie, dissatisfied with life, seeks himself in the war. Nurse Anna and faithful dog Walt will also meet. How will the fates of these characters unfold? And does everyone have a “good ending”?

In the First World War, large-scale combat operations were carried out under the surface of the ocean for the first time. In the game 1914: Shells of Fury you have to control a submarine and complete missions. There are realistic controls, a historically accurate storyline and a detailed environment. If you are a fan of tactical battles, then the game 1914: Shells of Fury will suit your taste.

Games about the Vietnam War, 1957-1975

The Vietnam War was fought between the United States and, by extension, Vietnam. All means were used in battle: advanced American technologies and tricks (traps, underground passages) Vietnamese. The conflict dragged on for almost 2 decades, becoming one of the largest in history. It is the main theme of the following games, in which you are asked to choose one of the sides and carry out combat operations.

DICE, in an effort to depict all significant military events in games, did not ignore the theme of the Vietnam War. The game is a tactical shooter and is controlled from a first-person perspective. There are two sides available - South Vietnam/USA and North Vietnam.

Among the features it is worth emphasizing the abundance of large-scale maps and a variety of weapons. The gameplay boils down to capturing control points.

Tactical shooter Rising Storm 2: Vietnam tells the story of the tragic war in Vietnam. Players are invited to play as the Vietnamese or the Americans. Each side has its own characteristics - for example, the USA uses latest technologies(rocket artillery, surface-to-air missiles), and the other side uses “traditional methods” - traps, trenches, underground passages. You are invited to fight large maps and demonstrate tactical skills.

The “revolutionary” shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is distinguished not only by realism, but also by humor. There is an intriguing story campaign that tells the story of the fates of several soldiers.

The main advantage is detailed destructibility. You can take the building apart brick by brick, make new moves and use the environment to your advantage. However, if you decide to hide from a tank in a dilapidated house, alas, you will have problems.

One of the parts of Call of Duty partially touches on the theme of the Vietnam War. The main character, Alex Mason, is trying to remember previous events. You have to follow the fates of several characters, run through picturesque forests and take part in heated operations. For example, one of the missions tells about the escape from Vorkuta.

Players are offered a variety of multiplayer that allows players to compete with each other in different modes (“Team Battle”, “Capture the Flag”, “Sabotage” and others).

Saboteurs: Vietnam - action, RTS. There are two story campaigns (USA and Vietnam), in each you will meet different personalities (Sergeant John Merrill, sniper Sonny Armstrong and others).

There are a variety of missions - classic stealth is replaced by hurricane battles taking place in picturesque locations. The game Saboteurs: Vietnam allows you to fully experience all the realities of the Vietnam War.

This selection contains the best, in our opinion, MMOs and games with active multiplayer in the Second World War setting. The list includes games from different genres, so the TOP is quite arbitrary.

World War II- the most dramatic page in the history of the twentieth century. How many books have been written, films made and songs sung about these terrible events. When rivers of blood flow, bullets rain down, explosions rupture eardrums, and the heart jumps out of the chest from fear, it becomes clear who is a coward and who is a hero. Fortunately, now most of us only have to be heroes in games, as long as the games are cool and atmospheric.

20. Call of War

Essentially, this game is a simplified browser version of the famous Hearts of Iron series. In the same way, here we are offered to lead one of the world's countries on the eve of the Second World War and try to lead it to victory (or simply survive, as luck would have it).

The main advantages of the game are a huge number of possibilities (war, economics, research, trade, espionage, diplomacy) and very nice graphics for a browser. The main disadvantage stems from the format - like many other browser strategies, this one also suffers from long production times and the possibility of bending over for donations.

19. Call of Duty WWII

The wheel of Samsara has turned for this series and it has finally, after 14 long years, returned to where it began - the European Theater of World War II. And if the single turned out to be in the spirit of a military-psychological drama, atypical for the series, then the multiplayer was made closer to the roots.

Among the key innovations of the online mode, it is worth noting the headquarters - a place where players can wander around, chat with each other, watch streams, try to draw their own emblem, and much more. The “Wars” mode has also been added to the game, in which one of the teams is trying to complete a chain of tasks, and the second must stop them from doing so.

18. Blitzkrieg 3

Blitzkrieg 3 is a continuation of the RTS series about World War II from Nival Interactive. The game covers almost the entire period of the war, when fighting– from the start of the war in 1939 until the fall of Berlin in 1945.

At the same time, before plunging into multiplayer, it makes sense to go through the single player - not only do you master all the intricacies of the game better this way, but also access to some units opens up as a reward for completing missions in the campaign. One of the revolutionary innovations of the game is the world's first neural network AI for RTS, cooperative battles against which are available in multiplayer.

17. Heroes & Generals

Heroes & Generals is a shooter about the Second World War with the capture of command points. A beginning player has the rank of infantry private, but then, depending on his behavior in battle, he can receive a higher rank and, if desired, retrain as a sniper, tankman, aviator, or even paratrooper.

Battles are held in a 25 vs 25 format, with the players of each team divided into battle groups with different tasks. The game features many types of weapons and military equipment. New weapons and their modifications are unlocked as you level up. The game is free, but donations are present and cause complaints from some players.

16. Steel Ocean

Steel Ocean is one of the few niche competitors of World of Warships, even the controls here are not much different from “ships”. What can we say about the gameplay - in the same way, here you need to cut across the sea on proud steel beauties and bring down the power of the main caliber or torpedoes on your opponents.

The main difference between the game and WoWS is that there are submarines here after all! The rest is trivial - cruisers are divided into light and heavy, the crew system is different (one commander per fighting compartment), aircraft carriers carry more aircraft and sink faster, the engine is slightly better optimized. The main problem of the game is its obscurity, so the online is small and you can wait a very long time for a battle.

15. Steel Division: Normandy 44

This game is dedicated to the famous D-Day, when a huge American-British landing force of more than 150 thousand people landed on the beaches of Normandy captured by the Nazis. In the single you can repeat the real combat path of individual divisions that took part in those events, and in online mode you can take part in large-scale battles of teams of 10 people.

The game admires the meticulousness with which the developers recreated the realistic landscapes of Normandy and the equipment that participated in those battles. Unlike many other online RTS games on PC, there is no such thing as a “base” at all, so the battles are mobile and dynamic.

14. World of Warships

Most MMOs about the Second World War offer us to take part in various land and air battles. However, many great battles of that war also took place at sea - let us recall the events of the Battle of the Atlantic, the battle at Midway Atoll and the heroic Arctic convoys.

WoWS not only gives you the opportunity to look at that war from a different angle, but also offers unique gameplay when playing on each of the classes. Here everyone will be able to choose the pace of battle to their liking - fans of drive will appreciate fast-moving destroyers, supporters of versatility can choose cruisers, and thoughtful strategists will suit leisurely battleships or grandiose aircraft carriers.

13.Battle Islands

12. Wargame 1942

This game, although made in the style of the Second World War, is essentially a city-planning browser strategy. The player takes command of a military town and must develop it, extract resources, study technologies, train soldiers, build equipment and participate in battles.

There is a system of espionage and diplomacy, sea, air and land battles, and even a gaming bank with a floating deposit rate. The game itself is very well developed and interesting, it’s nice to be able to play it for free. But the chosen setting, in which one American military base may attack another, raises questions.

11. Foxhole

10. Enlisted

Enlisted is another ambitious project from Gaijin, which recently entered the alpha test stage. In this tactical online shooter, we are invited to get into the role of a simple soldier during the most famous battles of World War II.

The key feature of the game, as is often the case with Gaijin, is maximum authenticity. Therefore, instead of balancing lineups, the game will most often implement a balance of tasks for two initially unequal teams - for example, you will need to delay a tank offensive by playing with a handful of infantry. In some missions, the player will have to control not only one character, but an entire squad, with up to 150 soldiers in battle.

9. War Thunder

This game is simply doomed to constant comparisons with World of Tanks, although in essence they were created with completely different philosophies. In Tundra, the historical nature of the technology used in the game is of paramount importance, so if an airplane or tank is actually inferior to its competitors, no one will stretch its parameters to the globe for the sake of balance.

8. Men of War: Assault Squad 2

Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is a detailed and realistic RTS about World War II, the latest in the “Behind Enemy Lines” series at the moment. Here we have to establish interaction between military branches and capture key points in order to receive reinforcement points and order new units.

Multiplayer is presented in the form of battles in the format from 1 on 1 to 8 on 8. What makes the series stand out is the ability to take manual control of any unit at any time, the almost complete destructibility of the environment and a modular system of damage to equipment.

All this is expected in the continuation of the series announced for 2018 - Soldiers: Arena, an exclusively online tactical RTS.

7. Day of Infamy

6. Sniper Elite Series: Nazi Zombie Army

Finally, zombie Nazis, which have become a trademark of out-of-this-world trash films, have reached game development. This game is an add-on to the quite serious shooter simulator Sniper Elite, so it is seriously trying to intimidate us with an alternative historical army of Nazi undead.

And in general, she succeeds - because for every successful shot, you need to take into account many factors such as weather and the weight of the ammunition used. And then there are zombies on all sides. So survival becomes problematic. The only saving grace is the cooperative mode, where four of you can fight off the undead, in the manner of Left 4 Dead.

5. Dino D-Day

One could say that this is a serious online shooter in the alternative history genre, but the truth is that it is a savage deconstruction of the “online shooter about World War II” genre, in which dinosaurs also fight for Hitler.

Here you can throw grenades at a velociraptor, fire a burst of Tommy gun at a dilophosaurus, or get into the role of a tyrannosaurus and trample, crush, and devour. It is especially pleasing that each dinosaur has its own tactical role: tyrannosaurs are tanks, raptors are assassins, and desmatosuchus and protoceratops are a stand for a cannon. The main disadvantages of this game, brilliant in its concept, are the outdated engine and small online. You can download it on Steam.

4. Day of Defeat: Source

Day of Defeat: Source can be called Counter Strike in the setting of World War II. Interaction between players here is more important than in counter, because there are as many as 6 classes here. Among them is a shooter - a kind of under-sniper, but with grenades, an attack aircraft for close combat, a support for cover and battles at medium range, a classic sniper, a machine gunner and a grenade launcher.

As in CS, you can fight for any of the two opposing sides, which differ in weapons (German is more lethal, American is easier to use). The game has 2 main modes - capture flags and blow up an object.

3. Company of Heroes

Company of Heroes is an RTS series about World War II, which began as a transfer of the plot of popular films about the war to game world. At the same time, the developers took as a basis some of the mechanics they had previously developed in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.

The first game in the series appeared back in 2006, since then 3 addons and one sequel have been released. At the same time, an attempt to make a pure MMO out of the game in the form of Company of Heroes Online failed back in 2011. However, the multiplayer of Company of Heroes 2 is still very popular, even despite the scandal surrounding the plot of the single. One of the innovations of the game is the TrueSight system, which reliably simulates the visibility of different units.

2. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad

Red Orchestra 2 is a realistic and detailed tactical online shooter dedicated to the legendary battle for Stalingrad. There is no place for heroic runs with a machine gun at the ready - most of the time you have to sit behind cover, occasionally running between them and trying to look around.

The shelling reduces visibility due to stress, so it is better to stay close to the commander. A sniper’s bullet can kill here, but when shooting from a weaker weapon, more shots may be needed, especially considering the anatomical system of the game - only headshots and hits to the chest are fatal, other wounds cause bleeding that can be stopped in time.

1. World of Tanks

At the very beginning of its journey, this legendary game was positioned as a game about the Second World War. As the project developed, the time frame expanded slightly, and now Leopards and Centurions originally from the second half of the 50s are calmly cutting across the battlefield next to the Royal Tigers.

Release this tactical shooter, which has raised more than $200,000 on Kickstarter, is scheduled for release in 2018. The game promises us large-scale 50 vs. 50 battles, which can only be won through coordination of team actions and proper interaction between the military branches.

There will be a total of 13 roles in the game, differing in skills and equipment, which will also be historically accurate. Game cards will reproduce the locations of legendary battles as accurately as possible. They promise realism in terms of the system of damage to people and equipment.

Battlefield V

Although this game has not yet been released, it is quite obvious that it will immediately supplant other participants in the list best games about the Second World War. After all, it was this series that created such a genre as the online tactical shooter.

LurelnLey

Games and books are my way of living several lives in one. My childhood occurred at a time when projects that had already become immortal classics saw the light of day: Heroes of Might and Magic, Diablo, Warcraft and others. Since then, interest in the industry has appeared, which is unlikely to ever fade away.
