As for mediocre little things in terms of creating all kinds of structures, their presence need not be mentioned. They are present here, every single one, from classic windows and doors to the fence. That’s exactly what we’ll talk about in this article. Namely, about how to craft a fence in Minecraft, how to install it, why it is needed, and also what features it has.
Crafting a fence in Minecraft
Like any other items, crafting a fence in Minecraft using a workbench, which resembles a table with various tools. It is created in the standard interface from 4 boards, which can be obtained from one cut wooden block. Has the workbench been created? Great! Now you can move on to crafting a fence in the game. To create two fencing elements you will need 6 sticks, which, in turn, can be obtained from boards. They need to be placed on the bottom and middle rows within the workbench. However, keep in mind that this recipe is correct if the version of your game client is lower than 1.8. Otherwise for crafting a fence in Minecraft, namely three elements - you will need 4 boards and two sticks.
You need to arrange them as follows:
- boards on the sides in the bottom and middle rows;
- sticks in the central cell of the bottom and middle row.
What is a fence for in Minecraft and how to use it?
Well, what might a fence be for? Of course, for fencing a house, yard, paddock or a simple plot of land in Minecraft. At the same time, it is impossible to mention quite interesting feature fence in the game. The fact is that outwardly its height is equal to 1 block, and therefore it would seem that it would be easy to jump over it, but this is not so. The fact is that in reality, the vertical fence element occupies one and a half blocks, which makes it, in fact, useful for fencing from evil monsters: creepers, zombies, spiders, etc.A fence can also be used to prevent animals from running away. This function will be needed by those who like to breed domestic (and other) animals, who really like to roam around square spaces.
By the way, the color of the fence depends on what type of wood was used to create it, so you can and should “play” with the color scheme, especially if you feel like a designer!
As for use, there are usually no problems with this. Craft a fence in Minecraft, for that matter, much more complicated, although in any case this process does not cause any particular difficulties. In order to put up a fence, you first need to create it, then pick it up and click LMB on the area where you want to place the fence. And so on until a fence of the required size and shape is created. To enter/exit the fence fortification, you need to install a gate (do not forget to close it after crossing the so-called demarcation line, since animals and mobs can also pass through it).
The necessary thing is a fence. Especially in open areas. And in real life it can be difficult without it, and even more so in Minecraft.
Without it, outside mobs will trample your wheat/carrot/potato farm, and hostile ones will walk freely near your house. Without it, your livestock will run away from your territory. After all, absolutely all creatures from the Mine reality can jump over blocks. But they can't through the fence. So how to make a fence in Minecraft?
Craft
First of all, for almost any crafting recipe you need to have a workbench (in our case it is mandatory), which must be made from four boards or one block of wood. Because the player’s crafting menu consists of only four slots, when we need nine – that’s exactly what the workbench has.
In order to make a fence, we will need boards and sticks. The boards are made from one block of wood, and the sticks are made from two boards.
At the moment there are 6 types of wood in the game, which can be used for various constructions/manufacturing:
- Birch;
- Jungle Tree;
- Dark Oak;
- Acacia.
But when creating obstacles impassable for mobs, you can rely not only on wood. If you want to have special kind your future barrier, you will need Hell Brick blocks. For one such block, you need to melt 4 blocks of Hellstone in a furnace. In this way, they will turn into four Hell Bricks, from which, in turn, you can make the above-mentioned block.
Before the Minecraft 1.8 update (The Bountiful Update), which was revealed to virtual players in September 2014 and the penultimate one at the moment, it did not matter what kind of wood was needed to craft a fence, since only sticks were used in the crafting recipe. In total, 6 sticks were needed. This means that you would need 4 blocks of wood with two sticks to spare. 4 blocks of boards is one block of wood.
But now, since the fence can consist of different types of wood, we must use the same type. For example, if we want an oak fence, that means we cannot take both oak and spruce boards for it. Only oak ones will suit us.
Also from now on, to make our barrier, it is used new recipe creation. It requires 4 boards and 2 sticks. 2 sticks are 2 boards with two unused sticks. In total, this is 6 boards or one and a half blocks of wood.
Gate
But what's the point of a barrier if its owner can't get through it? To do this you need to craft a gate. It is, in fact, a barrier, like the fence we described, but, obviously, it can be open or closed, which makes it possible to pass through it if necessary. Like a regular fence, it only takes on a certain color of wood, and you can only use one specific type for a given gate.
The recipe for crafting a gate is similar to the recipe for a fence, only the sticks and boards need to be swapped as shown in the picture below. As a result, 5 planks are wasted (2 sticks in stock), which in turn is created from 1.25 wood.
Hell's Fence
There is also a Hell Brick fence in Minecraft, which functions identically to a wooden one, but has a different texture and crafting recipe. To craft it, you need 6 blocks of Hell Brick, which are formed from 24 Hell Bricks.
Stone Wall
There is also a Stone Wall in Minecraft. And it also works exactly the same as a fence. There are two options: from regular or mossy cobblestone. To create it you need 6 blocks of one or another cobblestone. Mossy cobblestone can be crafted using 1 regular cobblestone and 1 vine.
Unfortunately, the Hell Fence and Stone Walls do not come with a gate. Minecraft allows this luxury only for wooden barriers.
You just have to choose the type of fence with which you will protect your houses and farms from various hostile creatures inhabiting the world of Minecraft, and also prevent livestock from scattering into unknown distances. By the way, friendly mobs can be tied to a wooden or hellish fence (lonely block) - then they will always be in the same place you need, despite the absence of obstacles.
This barrier is also convenient to use for purely decorative purposes. For example, as a window substitute.
Important!
Don’t forget that flying mobs and spiders, due to their properties, are still able to overcome (fly/jump over) even such an obstacle as a fence. Fortunately, only harmless bats have the ability to fly in the normal Minecraft world. And you will meet all the other “flyers” only in the lower world.

Where else might a fence be needed?

What other types of fencing can be installed?
You can make a fence from regular or mossy cobblestones. Only it will be called in Minecraft: a cobblestone wall, however, the name does not play a special role, this does not change the essence. Such a fence, like a wooden one, will cope well with its protective function in minecraft. You can also add a second row to it, turning it into a “fortress wall” with holes.
