View fps during the game. Programs showing FPS in games

Hello! Today I decided in this article to tell you about a program that displays fps in any game.

There are many different programs on the Internet, but I will not list everything and will only talk about MSI Afterburner. This program allows not only to display fps in games. but also to overclock the video card, but today we will not talk about overclocking.

Where to download MSI Afterburner?

Download this program from the official site

I draw your attention to the fact that the installation file, as usual, is in the archive, but this installation file will be a folder with the digital name 4.5.0 (as of May 29, 2018, the version of the program may change over time) and it needs to be extracted from the archive, for example, as I work table, because if you do not extract the folder, then the installer may not run.

Installation

Now we install the program, everything is as usual here, BUT in this section

all checkboxes must be checked MSI Afterburner» and on « Riva tuner"without the additional Riva Tuner program, fps will not be displayed in the game and additional windows and functions will not appear in the "MSI Afterburner" program for fps settings. This is a mandatory moment, by the way, I almost did not find on the Internet about the mandatory installation of Riva Tuner for fps in games.

After the installation of "MSI Afterburner" is completed, a new installer window appears

Now the Riva Tuner installer has appeared, initially I thought that this was a repeated command of the MSI Afterburner installer and ignored the installation and because of this I did not see additional functions for setting the FPS, in general, click ok and install Riva Tuner.

Setting

Launch "MSI Afterburner" and go to settings

Go to window " Monitoring»

Here, in the list, select the desired option to display in the game, for example, the temperature of the GPU (video card), select this item and tick the box below “ Show in OED»

Similarly, you can choose for example " CPU temperature” and others, most importantly, when choosing a parameter, do not forget to check the box “ Show in OED» press ok.

Enable FPS setting

The fps setting is called " Frame frequency“, initially there is no checkmark next to it and therefore it needs to be put

so that the option " Show in OED«.

Now in games you should have such a picture

In the upper left corner, information about fps and other parameters is displayed. Specifically, I set the temperature and load of the GPU video card, the temperature and load of the CPU processor and, accordingly, fps, it is the lowest.

To change the icon size, you need to go to the Riva Tuner program

in setup On-Screen Display zoom adjust icon size

Important!

The "MSI Afterburner" program must always be running in order for the FPS to be displayed in the game.

I hope I answered your question about how to display fps in games now. If something is unclear, ask questions in the comments.

Programs for showing FPS in games work simultaneously with the game and display the number of frames per second that the computer produces. In addition to FPS, the programs have other useful features, such as recording video from the screen.

Fraps

Fraps is the most famous program for showing FPS in games.

Fraps works on top of all windows, no need to switch between processes. The program has simple controls and functionality, which is quite enough for all purposes. Distributed for free, but the trial version has a limited period.

Main functions:

  • Video recording in the game;
  • Creation of screenshots;
  • Performance testing, including displaying performance between two selected points.

Despite its popularity, Fraps also has some drawbacks, such as high consumption of computer resources during video recording and their large size. For example, a 10-second video can be about 100 MB or more in size.

MSI Afterburner

MSI Afterburner is designed to increase the performance of a video card by increasing clock speeds and voltage (see).

FPS display is one of the additional features free program. To enable it, you need to open the settings tab and go to the "Monitoring" section. Next, check "Frame Rate" and "Show in Overlay Screen Display". After confirming your actions, you need to restart the program.

The program is popular and is used on a par with Fraps.

Designed to control the entire system - the user is provided with information about the temperature and load on the video card and processor. Frame rate tracking is one possibility.

The software will let you know about the maximum loads on the system and the temperature rise, so you can take action to avoid malfunctions.

The CAM program is Russified and completely free.

The main purpose of the software is disclosed in the name - tracking the number of frames per second, but in addition you can get information on other system parameters. Of the benefits - FPS Monitor is translated into Russian.

Serious downside - full version costs 400 rubles.

The main purpose is to create interfaces for games. Due to its free content, it is actively used by gamers. In the settings, you need to check the box "Enable in-game FPS monitor", then select hot key, a place to display information and you can enter the game.

The program is free and supports the Russian language.

GeForce Experience

A free nVidia graphics card optimization program with a simple interface.

In addition to displaying FPS, the program also has others:

  • general control over the system,
  • game optimization,
  • performance definition,
  • online broadcast games,
  • updating drivers.

conclusions

Each of the considered programs provides the ability to display FPS in games. Fraps remains the most convenient and popular software for these purposes. Easy setup and additional functions allow you to get information regarding the number of frames per second and other additional features.

Naturally, the choice directly depends on personal preferences and the need for certain functions.

Monitoring the temperature of the processor and video card during gaming sessions is useful for many reasons - it's easier to figure out why the computer can't cope with the load or prepare in advance for a sharp jump in some indicators, literally taking care of the future life and functionality of the selected components. And in general - PC health monitoring has long ceased to take a lot of time and effort, the main thing is to choose the right tool ...

Due to the differences between personal computers of different community members, developers of software focused on monitoring the processor and video card in the game are always looking for some universal solutions that can suit both owners of processors from Intel and AMD, and video chip keepers from NVidia and AMD . As a result, the MSI Afterburner and FPS Monitor tools immediately appeared on the thematic software market, which monitor the temperature, display the load of some components, and even evaluate the performance of the system as a whole. More universal or suitable programs for such purposes can no longer be found, and therefore - it's time to try!

MSI Afterburner is a multifunctional service originally developed for MSI GPUs, which can be overclocked through Afterburner, significantly increasing performance and maximum frames per second. But a little later, the developers decided to move on and attached the Riva Tuner graphical shell to MSI Afterburner. As a result, it became possible to collect statistics about the PC in real time.

Important!!! It is easy to interact with both the graphical settings and the service from MSI - after installing each utility, a classic menu with settings will open, where it will be possible to set the appropriate indicators.

For example, it will be possible to select the corner where the frame counter and the data collected during monitoring (temperature, current frequencies, overall load level) will appear. And most importantly - if some nuances are incomprehensible or seem complicated, the developers suggest either looking into the instructions, or hovering over any menu item - a short message with a decryption will immediately appear.

FPS monitor

FPS Monitor is a tool similar in functionality and purpose, designed to analyze and monitor the system.

Of the pluses - a full-fledged translation into Russian, which makes it impossible to get confused in the interface, a free choice of displayed indicators, and a section with alerts that appear at the moment when the load reaches a critical point (and you need to go to the main menu or change cooling, or disable Boost technology in the BIOS settings for the processor). As in the case of MSI Afterburner, to interact with FPS Monitor, you need to use the official website, download the tool, and then launch and go through the settings menu. There were problems - the instruction will help. Well, you'll have to experiment a little too!

Other popular programs

If the options listed above with monitoring information about the processor and video card did not help, or, on the contrary, look uncomfortable and extremely confusing, you should also pay attention to the following tools:

  • AIDA64 is a system utility, although it is not able to tell about the changes taking place with the components of a personal computer, but, nevertheless, it can also significantly simplify monitoring. The main thing is to immediately open AIDA64 and go to the “Sensors” section through the “Computer” panel. As a result, a bunch useful information updated in real time. Processor, video chip, temperature, rpm and voltage. The only thing that will take some getting used to is the lightning-fast transition from the game to AIDA64 using the ALT + TAB combination.
  • CAM is a cross-platform analysis and monitoring tool that can tell you both the number of FPS and the load on the central processor to determine and warn of unexpectedly high temperatures. An additional bonus - after the end of the game session, you can get acquainted with detailed statistics that display the most "weak" places in the system.
  • GeForce Experience. As the name implies, GeForce Experience is capable of monitoring, but only for those PCs with NVidia cards installed. Not too much information is displayed - just a few "values". Like the number of frames per second and the load of the system as a whole.

Frames per second (FPS) is related to monitoring refresh rates while playing games on computers, consoles and smartphones. A high FPS game will look smoother, and it's important to track FPS if you want to gauge gaming performance.

You can display FPS games with Steam's built-in FPS display, software NVIDIA GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner and other third party tools.

Microsoft releases new update for Windows 10 app Xbox Game Bar which includes new FPS monitoring. While the third party apps noted above have always offered a way to monitor FPS, Microsoft has finally realized that Windows 10 needs a native solution to measure game performance. It's a long overdue move that will delight gamers who use Windows as their daily gaming platform.

Microsoft releases built-in FPS counter in Windows 10 with Game Bar update in October 2019, which can be opened by pressing a key combination Win+G. The Game Bar also allows users to quickly check their CPU, GPU, and memory usage.

Microsoft states that a new version Game Bar will download and install automatically, but you can also check the Microsoft Store for updates and download the update manually. The FPS counter does not require joining the Windows Insider program and to have a pre-build.

To enable the FPS counter in Windows 10, you need to update the app and agree to additional Windows permissions after launching the Game Bar with the keyboard shortcut Win+G. After granting permissions, a system restart will also be required to complete the installation.

The FPS counter is only displayed when you are in the game. All games including traditional games for PC, Microsoft Store (UWP), and even emulators, are supported by a built-in FPS counter that keeps track of the last 60 seconds of gameplay.

Microsoft has also added a few options to customize the experience. For example, you can change the position of the chart, adjust the transparency of the back panel, and choose your own accent color. By default, you will see performance data in the right corner of the screen.

Upcoming Task Manager Improvements

According to breaking news, spring update Windows 10 in 2020 will bring two new features to the Task Manager.

The update will add the drive type to the "Performance" tab in the "Task Manager" so you can check if your PC or laptop has an HDD or SSD installed.

Windows 10 also displays the GPU temperature in the Performance tab of the Task Manager. In the near future, CPU temperature monitoring will also appear in the Task Manager.

While Task Manager improvements are coming next year, the FPS counter is already available to everyone in the Microsoft Store.

If you need to monitor the processor and video card in the game, and at the same time you would not refuse to display the frame rate (FPS) during the game, then the easiest way to get all this for free is install MSI Afterburner.

The program is simple and clear, its only drawback is the very small default interface buttons.

MSI Afterburner can monitor all the parameters a player needs:

  • GPU temperature.
  • CPU temperature.
  • The load level of both, to determine the "bottlenecks" of the system.
  • Frame rate (FPS).
  • The rotation speed of the video card cooler.
  • As well as many other indicators that are not so necessary for the average gamer, such as frequencies and voltages, as well as information about the page file. Of course, you yourself assign what to monitor and display on the Overlay Screen Display (OED, aka OSD).
  • And MSI Afterburner can capture videos and screenshots, and overclock the graphics card. In general, a complete mincemeat!

The data can not only be monitored, but also displayed on the screen during the game to enjoy real-time numbers without turning off the game every minute. By the way, along with all these statistics, you can also display the clock on the screen, which can be very convenient.

One of the features of the program is the display of peak values on the monitoring graphs, so there is no need to scroll through the graphs - just glance at the little red numbers above them.

Configuring MSI Afterburner

To begin with, we poke the Settings button at the bottom of the program panel:

At the top of the window that appears:

  1. select the "Monitoring" tab;
  2. check the boxes on the list items that we want to monitor. Drag the lines with the mouse in the order you want them to appear in the game;
  3. while the line item is selected, it can be assigned - whether it will be displayed in the OED during the game, or not (and at the same time the color, name, and other properties).

As you can see, in the screenshot, the Frame Rate is not checked, but you usually need to check it, unless your FPS is displayed by the game itself, or by another program.

After that, I advise you to see what is hidden in other tabs of this panel, especially in the far right - Interface.

Configuring the EOS MSI Afterburner

So, in order to configure the display of FPS and monitoring data during the game, in the same settings panel, find the OED tab, and there the "Advanced" button. Clack her!

The OED settings window opens. In it you have to do the following things:

  1. Make sure the EOS display switch is in the ON position (if not, you know what to do!).
  2. Optional: turn it on if suddenly the anti-cheat in the game swears.
  3. Optional: affects the display method (roughly speaking, the font) of the EOS. It is best to choose Raster 3D, where you can adjust the font by clicking on the inscription Raster 3D again.
  4. The shadow of the font is better to turn on (switch to the ON position).
  5. Choose the font color of the OED to your taste!
  6. Squares at the corners of the monitor - fast way move the EOS to the desired corner of the monitor. Or you can simply drag and drop the OED with the mouse, or set its coordinates manually.

That, perhaps, is all about the quick setup of MSI Afterburner to monitor the processor and video card in the game. If you need a detailed overview of the program's features, watch one of the best videos on this topic from Artyom:
