The second episode of Batman: The Enemy Within will feature a new villain. Batman: The Enemy Within review

The release date is the time period after which the game is considered released, which usually means that it can already be downloaded and tried if you purchase a licensed copy. For example, the release date for Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 4: What Ails You is January 23, 2018.

Recently, more and more often, developers allow you to buy a game in advance - make a pre-order. In response to support from potential buyers who believe in the success of the project so much that they give money for it even before release, the developers share various bonuses and exclusive materials. This could be a soundtrack, an art book, or some mini-addons for the game.

Thus, pre-order actually allows you to buy the game before its official release, but this does not mean that the stated release date loses its significance, since you can fully play it only after release.

Why do you need to know game release dates?

If only because it’s more convenient to plan your time and finances. If you know, for example, when Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 4: What Ails You will be released, then it will be easier for you to navigate: set aside money in advance to purchase it, plan things so that you can immerse yourself in the game as soon as it comes out .

Many gamers track game release dates using special calendars and feature articles about the most important releases of the month or season. You can find both on our gaming portal website

How do developers choose the time to release?

They are guided by many factors at once. Firstly, it is important for them to know that their target audience will be able to immediately join the gameplay, so games are released less often during the holiday season, as well as in those months when work is usually busy and students are in session.

Secondly, for a successful release, developers try to compare their plans with announcements of potential competitors. For example, if we are talking about a shooter, then releasing it simultaneously with the new Battlefield or Call of Duty is not very reasonable.

Thirdly, the release date indicates the so-called deadline - the very point after which the game is ready. This means that it must be completed within the stated time frame. Alas, this does not always work out, and therefore the release date of the game may be shifted one or even several times.

In addition to this, the release of Batman: The Enemy Within - Episode 4: What Ails You on PC and consoles may differ - often developers try to release one version first, and only then move on to the next.

The second episode, entitled "The Pact", will be released on September 26 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and will mark the debut of the character Harley Quinn in the Telltale Games Batman series.

“In an effort to create a unique take on the Batman canon, we tried to create our own interpretation of the character of Harley Quinn, maintaining recognizable features while adding something new to it. The balance of power between Harley and John Doe should be particularly... intriguing.", says Telltale in a press release.

John Doe is none other than the Proto-Joker, eloquently symbolizing the studio's unique approach to reimagining the Dark Knight's enemies. Undoubtedly, the new episode will be especially interesting, given the likely reunion of the legendary couple and the danger from the Riddler.

Among other things, a physical edition of the Season Pass Disc will go on sale on October 3, including the first two episodes of Batman: The Enemy Within and access to download the remaining three, which, apparently, will be released before the end of this year.

Batman: The enemy within is an episodic game in the quest and graphic adventure genres. It is a sequel to Batman: The Telltale Series, released in 2016. The game was developed and published by the American company Telltale Games. The project was announced in July 2017. The game is available on platforms such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Android, IOS, Windows, and Mac OS X.

The new part continues the story of Bruce Wayne. This time he will have to defend his native Gotham from the Riddler, who, having returned to the city, continued to commit terrible crimes. The Joker also did not stand aside, because he always has an ace up his sleeve. Due to the upcoming threat, the government has sent a federal agent to Gotham, but can he be trusted? Will you be able to survive this nightmare, who will you ask for help, and, most importantly, will you be able to keep Bruce Wayne sane?

Since Batman's armor was worn out in the last part, Lucius Fox updated it a little. Now the gloves have a built-in “Anchor”, which works on this principle - you select a target, mark the place where you want to attach the “Anchor” and send Batman flying. In Batman: The enemy within, the tactical mode was removed, where you could work out an attack in advance. But now in battle you have the opportunity to choose how to neutralize the enemy. Detective mechanics have remained almost unchanged, you still need to mark important places, study them and connect them with each other, it has become necessary to arrange events in chronological order.

Some players were surprised by the announcement of the second season Batman: The Telltale Series at the end of July. Making a worthy sequel in just a few months is no easy task. Literally: the article will be updated from time to time, and at the season finale we will give the final rating for the game.

Official trailer for the first season.

Riddle me this, Batman

Everything happens a year after the ending of the first part. Having learned a terrible secret about his parents, Bruce Wayne slowly restores his reputation and tries to help his hometown more. But while tracking Gotham's biggest arms dealer, the hero encounters a dangerous new adversary: the Riddler.

The villain retained familiar features: a cane, a predominance of green in clothes and an insane love for riddles and puzzles. The creators only replaced the hat with a hood, and made the character himself a real sadist, which was reflected in his clever traps. The latter are reminiscent of John Kramer's inventions from the Saw film series. Only in the game, characters lose limbs and receive burns for incorrect answers.

Tell me who is your friend

We will also see Batman's usual arch-enemy: the Joker. Bruce Wayne owes him a favor, and now everything is built around the green-haired clown again. The interesting thing is that with their decisions, players themselves will create the future Joker.

New figures also appear on the chessboard, including the influential Amanda Waller. She heads the government organization "The Agency", which is busy hunting for the Riddler. When deciding whether to agree to her help, remember: in the future, it will be up to her to assemble a team of notorious thugs, also known as the Suicide Squad. And something tells us that this will happen in the coming episodes.

One of the main features of the first season is the emphasis on the story of Bruce Wayne, rather than his alter ego. Here we continue to observe how his nightly adventures affect the businessman. For the first time, Bruce faces the tragic consequences of his lifestyle, which gradually but inexorably plunge Gotham into chaos. And an improved suit will help us deal with new misfortunes.

Bat fighting style

After the battle with Lady Arkham in the finale of last season, the armor was noticeably worn out, and technical genius Lucius Fox decided to update it. The superhero's gloves now have an "Anchor" built into them. It works exactly like the Control Claw from Batman: Arkham Origins: you select a target, mark where you want to attach the Anchor, and send the hero flying. The battles themselves have become even more spectacular, although sometimes there is an overabundance of slo-mo. In addition, the tactical mode, in which the player could work out a surprise attack in advance, has disappeared. But now, right in battle, you can choose exactly how to neutralize the criminal.

The creators did not forget about the investigations: together with Commissioner Gordon, Batman goes to the alleged lair of the Riddler. There he discovers a new trap for a maniac, as well as an Agency employee who has fallen into it. To escape, players need to figure out how the death machine works and what mistakes the victim made.

The detective mechanics have remained almost unchanged: you mark important places, study them and try to connect them with each other. The only thing that was added was the need to arrange events in chronological order. A completely unnecessary function that was previously performed automatically.

I don't want to study!

Unfortunately. The developers again managed to step on their favorite rake. It seems that they either cannot or do not want to use the strengths of the project. After the announcement of the Riddler, the gaming community was hoping to take part in the battle of two minds, anticipating many difficult challenges. As a result, we got a couple of simple riddles.

The problem with identical faces of enemies was solved with the help of masks, but optimization still suffers. In open areas and when there are multiple characters, the game slows down noticeably, which is why Batman sometimes fails. Another Telltale scourge is poor localization. Phrases are still translated verbatim, some information is lost, and location names always say “Wayne’s Tower.”

Despite these missteps, the first episode was not only the most brilliant in the Batman: The Telltale Series, but also one of the best in the history of the company's games. This is exactly what the previous season should have been: well-directed, eventful and never boring. The ending promises a worthy continuation, in which players will have to face a whole group of familiar villains and witness the formation of Batman's main enemy.
