Until dawn similar games on ps4. Games similar to Until Dawn

The time of year, and the weather that has settled so far, are the best conducive to the fact that on a cloudy day, with the sounds of rain drumming on the roof, you can get comfortable, wrapped in a warm blanket, and listen to the terrible, chilling story of how a crazy maniac sought to take the lives of eight unlucky comrades who came into his field of vision.

Following the studio Ready at Dawn and its game The Order: 1886, which received very different ratings, representatives of the Sony company gave a chance to another studio, which has not yet earned a serious name for itself, to try its hand at developing a pretentious blockbuster - we are talking about the Supermassive Games studio with Until Dawn. Moreover, immediately in the field of interactive dramas, some of which perfectly turned the heads of users (Heavy Rain, Fahrenheit), while others made them spit furiously () - and all this to David Cage.

Let's figure out what happens when game creators, who do not yet have serious experience, enlist the support of a legendary brand, get their hands on the capabilities of advanced technologies and the chance to work with eminent personalities.

Even at the advertising stage, it became clear to everyone attentive that the game would not fail to collect all the cliches of youth slashers of category “B”. A bunch of teenagers, tired of the hustle and bustle and society, and escaping from all the adults to a house on the outskirts? Present. A maniac, bored in the wilderness and inspired by the proximity of such company? Eat. Even the characters are stereotyped - there is the first beauty of the school, there is a bitch, there is a representative of the golden youth, there is a nerd, there is a daredevil guy, etc.

It would seem that we have already seen all this a million times, but let’s not rush to verdicts. If you take a closer look, it turns out that even from such ingredients you can create an unknown dish.

What makes a good game? The opportunity to control the hero and feel like the creator of history, and not obediently follow the paths that the developers decide to take us. Surely, how many times, while watching this or that horror film, we are indignant: “Well, where are you going, it’s dangerous, it’s obvious that there’s a maniac hiding there!” Now you will make these difficult choices yourself. Only your “sofa” logic will break down more than once when you yourself find yourself on the other side of the barricades.

The so-called butterfly effect will be revealed in full force in the game - not a single action of yours will be left without a trail of bright and significant consequences. When the opportunity arose to see the game with our own eyes, we realized that this was not just a beautiful “temptation”, it was a real working mechanism. The developers have tried to make sure that not a single sneeze of yours goes unpunished.

In order not to be unfounded, we will tell you that when I was playing, I offended one of the heroes, and at the most unnecessary moment he began to expressively show his stubborn self, because of which we both almost died. This was really unexpected, because the situation is already not simple, and quarrels between the heroes only complicate everything. The atmosphere and the “boo effects” keep you in suspense, and at any moment someone can die - it’s easy here. The game is truly captivating and makes you immerse yourself in this terrible situation with the characters.

There is no strict connection between the concepts of “action” and “specific result”, as in many TV series. Each step, as we have already said, can develop into an unpredictable chain of consequences. Unpredictable - keyword. You are practically not given a chance to calculate everything in advance. Everything is like in life. That’s why it’s interesting to watch what’s happening, despite the fact that the “soup set” is standard. It would seem that everything is banal and has already been seen somewhere, but situations can develop so acutely, requiring such a difficult choice from you, the consequences of which you can feel for yourself only after a while.

Until Dawn really looks like a film - many thanks to the animation and the efforts of the developers who conjured the plasticity and facial expressions of the characters. Close-ups are so simply mesmerizing, but here, of course, there were some mistakes.

Shadows sometimes behave strangely and sometimes cut off half the faces of the heroes. If you look closely, you will notice that this is physically unrealistic. The developers tried to hide this incident in the official screenshots they posted, but we cannot show what we saw due to agreements. In our opinion, they also went overboard with the highlights in the eyes. But let’s still not forget and remind ourselves that this is a game, not live actors.

But what’s good is that in the game the developers managed to catch the golden mean between when the player simply watches events and when he participates in them. You will observe and participate in moderation, without boredom from the first and tension from the second. The timing of command input is also designed correctly - the more difficult the situation the character is in, the faster you have to do something and press something, and vice versa.

Exploring the world around us takes no less time than dialogues or simple contemplation. But this will not just be wandering around the neighborhood - you will need to draw logical conclusions from the totality of the collected evidence, this, in turn, will one way or another change the course of events, and you will also have access to special items that can show possible developments of situations. The latter, however, are not one hundred percent oracles - they can only show the possible and slightly guide, but in no case will they prophesy the inevitable.

So is it worth spending time and money on a new product? In our opinion, yes, if you are not sick of youth stories and movie clichés. For everyone else, those whose brains are not yet clouded by such things, the game will become a worthy example of how the genre should be embodied. And although it all starts with a very ordinary and familiar plot, in the process it opens up and blossoms with such twists and complications that you simply don’t want to emerge from there. How can you rate the project higher?..

Advantages:

  • a worthy embodiment of the interactive genre;
  • animation of faces and plasticity of characters at the highest level;
  • a rich atmosphere of tension and fear;
  • a variety of options for the development of events depending on your choice.

Flaws:

  • an abundance of clichés in the plot;
  • Sometimes characters get stuck in corners and it’s difficult to get them out of there.

Immediately after its release, Until Dawn deservedly received the status of one of the best games on PS4. It unusually used the clichés inherent in the genre, thanks to which it stood out among other horror films. In addition, the ending and various plot twists were entirely dependent on the player's actions. Until Dawn is unique in its own way, but if you're looking for something similar, then we'll talk about games that might suit your taste.

The Inpatient

It is not surprising that among games similar to Until Dawn, we decided to mention Inpatient first. Like the original, the prequel was developed by Supermassive Games and is a PS4 exclusive.

The premise here is almost the same as in Until Dawn (dangerous guys are trying to kill you and tickle your nerves in the process), while The Inpatient manages to maintain its uniqueness. It's a decent horror experience if you give it a chance and look past some of the obvious flaws. For a survival horror game, the action here unfolds slowly, but this does not in the least prevent the game from capturing your full attention.

The Inpatient was created specifically for helmets virtual reality PlayStation VR. And although she's not as chic as Resident Evil VII is definitely worth playing. Especially if you liked Until Dawn.

The Evil Within

Apparently, things are not going entirely smoothly at the Mayak psychiatric hospital. Therefore, detective Sebastian Castellanos, along with his two partners, set out on a strange call to figure out what's what. Upon arrival at the crime scene, it becomes clear that the massacre has just begun. It is at this moment that the degree of horror in the The Evil Within.

There are a couple of moments in the game that will make you think about Until Dawn. Confused plot The Evil Within constantly keeps you in suspense, not letting go for a minute and forcing you to listen to every strange rustle.

After some time, things start to fall into place. The sequel's plot is much better, but if you haven't played the first part, it doesn't make much sense. Therefore, if you like The Evil Within, then you can play the sequel afterwards.

The Last of Us

If The Last of Us and put it on a par with survival horror games, then it will be closest to games in the survival genre, not horror. This is one of best projects for consoles of the current generation, if not of all times. The Last of Us has long been reserved a place next to such classics as Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy VII and Barbie's Sparkling Ice Show.

The plot centers on Ellie and Joel, who make their way through the post-apocalyptic expanse of the United States. You must fight off mutated creatures and disgruntled survivors. To do this, use familiar (and not so familiar) weapons, such as shotguns and glass bottles, which you can throw at enemies.

But that's not all. If after completing the first part you become imbued with the atmosphere of what is happening and become attached to the main characters, then do not rush to part with them. The sequel does not yet have a release date, but will probably go on sale no later than 2020.

Life is Strange

You didn't think that the list of games similar to Until Dawn would only include horror games, did you?

Life is Strange is a game with memorable characters and a compelling story that depends entirely on the decisions you make along the way. In Until Dawn, they were really difficult and painful, the result of which often required restarting the game from the very beginning.

Luckily, Max, the main character of Life is Strange, has a handy ability that allows her to rewind time and prevent certain events from happening. As you progress, you will experience emotional ups and downs. You will definitely regret some decisions you made earlier. And this is not surprising. After all, the plot centers on teenagers.

Heavy Rain

Most often, games give us only the illusion of freedom, because regardless of the decisions made along the way, we still face the same ending. Ask anyone who's ever played a Nintendo RPG. All of them are known precisely due to illusory freedom. Fortunately, Heavy Rain, like Until Dawn, is not one of them. Therefore, instead of illusory freedom of action, we can actually control the plot.

In both games, the decisions made completely influence the further development of events. It is you who decides who will survive and who will not. The only thing that makes this choice even more burdensome is the feeling of guilt and fear that will not leave you after you see what your actions have led to.

What sacrifices are you willing to make to achieve what you want? Will you be able to come to terms with what you did and enjoy a “happy ending”, knowing exactly what you did? Then you will definitely appreciate Heavy Rain.

Outlast Series

Outlast is a series of atypical survival horror games with a first-person view. Imagine that someone collected all the long-tired clichés inherent in the horror genre, neatly stacked them in the corner of the room, and then smashed them with one single blow of a bat. And in such a way that splashes of blood splattered everything around. Introduced? This is exactly the kind of break in the mold that awaits you in Outlast.

Instead of the usual gameplay, you will have to rely on your instincts, hide and pray that no one finds you. You see, in the Outlast series you don't play as super soldiers or any police officers, but just as an ordinary journalist. And, as you understand, this is not the best survival fighter.

Each part of the series can be purchased separately, but it is most profitable to purchase complete collection. It is available on Steam and is called Outlast Trinity. The set includes two parts of the game and the Whistleblower add-on.

Alien: Isolation

Can you imagine anything scarier than a game where you have to hide from a bloodthirsty xenomorph? Unless, among other things, he started waving around unpaid parking tickets.

After a less than successful attempt at releasing a game based on the Alien franchise, 2014's Alien: Isolation was a breath of fresh air. Needless to say, such famous personalities as Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton and, of course, Sigourney Weaver himself made cameos here.

If you're not a fan of the endless chases from Until Dawn, then you'll definitely like Alien: Isolation. The only thing missing is Bill Paxton's famous "Game Over" line, which could be heard every time the xenomorph tears you to pieces. Although, there is probably some mod that adds it.

This concludes our list of games similar to Until Dawn. If you have other recommendations, please leave a comment below.

Should you drop everything and run for Until Dawn? Perhaps yes, if you don’t mind teen horror films and like interactive dramas. For everyone else, the project will be the best way to join this genre - we can safely say that the PS4 exclusive has become an ideal example of how to tell such stories in a gaming format. Yes, the plot is formulaic, but the deeper you dive into the local secrets, the less you want to return back to reality. And this is the best praise for the project and its creators.

DISGUSTING MEN

Until Dawn is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences this year. This is a clear genre work that does not try to seem larger than it actually is. Playing Until Dawn can be compared to watching one season of some strong, but not brilliant horror series. Another important advantage of the horror game from Supermassive Games is that it is an intimate, neat game that does not require you, as is now customary in the blockbuster segment, to spend 30-40 hours of free time.

The great variability of the plot of Until Dawn awakens an exorbitant desire to play the game again and again, until all the paths to dozens of different epilogues have been trodden up and down. Low entry threshold, interesting structure gameplay, beautiful visual design, fresh ideas in cinematic games - I think that PlayStation 4 owners can be congratulated on yet another powerful exclusive!

The disappointing thing is that, for the sake of dynamics, the game is absolutely not burdened with any riddles. Besides walking with a flashlight from one location to another, there are only QTEs. By the way, those who like to unquestioningly press all the buttons that pop up on the screen will be surprised: there are enough situations in which it would be more correct to do nothing at all. But, despite minor shortcomings, Until Dawn is exactly the kind of project that you want to replay in order to see all the endings, as was the case with Heavy Rain.

Interactive cinema, it turns out, does not need to philosophize and ask important questions, as David Cage is trying to do, or save on everything, following the example of Telltale. Until Dawn tells a story as old as time about dying teenagers and allows you to follow it along your own path, doing it beautifully and without limiting yourself in any way. Nobody expected anything special from her - and now this is a big discovery.

Until recently, it seemed to me that Until Dawn would turn out to be a resounding failure: an inexperienced studio, focused on the PlayStation Move, but Until Dawn turned out to be one of the best (and certainly one of the most interesting) PS4 exclusives. And if you, like me, were waiting for a hastily patched Frankenstein, with white threads sticking out here and there, and his head, as soon as he growls a little, flies off his shoulders and rolls under the sofa, exhale, everything is fine here. It's alive!

Until Dawn is worthy of your attention not only because of its rare writing style, innovative ideas that could become a new standard for interactive adventures, but also high level replayability. You can play the game several times to discover new plot branches, try to save all the heroes, or try to solve the seemingly inconspicuous mysteries of an old estate in a snowy forest.

Until Dawn is that rare case when a story invented by someone else becomes deeply personal for the player, when the personal contribution of the person with the gamepad to what is happening is not only clearly visible, but also emphasized in every possible way. Until Dawn is not the best game this year and, frankly speaking, not very good horror. But this is living proof that an interactive format can inspire new life even in the withered stamps from the “blue screens”. Games have long been not only more profitable, but also better and more interesting than any movie.

It seems that the idea of turning games into movies will not leave the heads of Sony's top managers for a long time, and until Dawn is the company's most successful experiment in this genre after Heavy Rain. This is not quite a game and not quite a movie, but a third form of interactive entertainment; This is unlikely to appeal to the hardcore audience, but for those who are still familiar with games, you can’t imagine a better horror game.

The game never, ever, anywhere, scares me in any way. Ten minutes of The Evil Within contains many times more horror than the entirety of Until Dawn. Listen, even Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes in the scene with Paz is a real horror movie. Here, the greatest emotions were caused by a wolverine cub jumping out of a closet. Youth horror films in cinema, of course, are also not the standard of horror, but the deaths there are scarier, and this does not take into account the effect of immersion in the game. For example, I can only watch them by periodically turning away from the screen.

Until Dawn, probably perfect game for people who very rarely play, since there is essentially no gameplay in it: just a set of QTEs and choices to “go there” or “do this.” Like Heavy Rain in its time, such games make a strong impression on people who are far from video games: before them is a real, albeit stupid, interactive movie. We can also recommend it to fans of the youth horror genre, but for everyone else we recommend waiting for the discount.

  1. Dess

    I've heard about this game for a long time, but only recently did I finally get to play it. To be honest, I was expecting at least Heavy Rain, but, unfortunately, my expectations were not entirely met.

    Pros:
    - Great graphics.
    - Confusing plot.

    Cons:
    - Low replayability (more than 3 months have passed, but there was no desire to replay and try to save more characters)
    - The plot, although unpredictable, is not for everyone. I was expecting big surprises (I won't spoil it) and drama.
    - The characters are somehow not engaging. If in Detroit Become Human simply touches you to tears, and you really want to save them, but here such a feeling does not arise.

    There are practically no games in the interactive cinema genre. Therefore, among the brightest competitors of recent years, only Detroit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls can be distinguished. Perhaps if there were more games, I would rate it lower. And because of the shortage of representatives, I cannot give less than 8 points. All the same, the game is executed with dignity, and may tickle your nerves somewhat. Another question is that the game gives off a certain feeling of not the most expensive youth horror film, and not a full-fledged king of horrors... It's a pity...

    I don’t understand how such a soap opera could even please people and fly so high in the ratings? Well, explain to me!!! What’s good about it? The only plus of this game is that everyone in it can die or, on the contrary, survive. Well, I guess here are gathered users who have never experienced real horrors in their own lives. The game is not scary at all, well, except perhaps for the screams of the wendigo and those moments when they are chasing one of the Persians, eventually overtaking the poor fellow. For horror, triple AAA this class is negligible, but mostly stupid walking along the corridors, looking at some worthless photos, collecting evidence in a collection in the form of butterflies. An obvious choice of two options. Well, you will find out ahead of time who is “like a maniac” and what next? Influence but you won’t be able to develop the course of events (track him down, catch him, organize a hunt for him) until he himself comes to you simply due to his stupidity and delusions of grandeur. Yes, excuse me for the tautology, Heavy Rain, Alien Isolation and Hellblade frightened me more than this teenage saw 7.

In fact, games similar to Until Dawn, They come out extremely rarely and at the same time their quality is a level lower, but still. If you liked the general format and gameplay features, then the games presented below will also be extremely interesting.

The Walking Dead. Yes, there may be less interactivity here, and the graphics are not so good, but rest assured, the story of a girl named Clementine will definitely surprise you. Whatever choice you make in the end will definitely affect the ending.

The Walking Dead system requirements:

  • System - Windows XP with Service Pack 3;
  • Video card - ATI or NVidia with 512 MB video memory (integrated Intel video cards are not recommended);
  • Disk space - 5 gigabytes.

Life is Strange. The game is presented as a kind of interactive movie. You, in the role of the girl Max, will have to figure out some rather strange events using the special power of going back in time. Can you find Rachel Amber? Time will show.

Life is Strange system requirements:

  • System - Windows Vista and higher;
  • Processor - Pentium 4 with a clock speed of 2 GHz or similar;
  • Video card - AMD or NVIDIA with 512 MB of built-in video memory (integrated Intel video cards are not recommended);
  • RAM - 2 gigabytes;
  • Disk space - 3 gigabytes.

Heavy Rain. One of the best projects at the moment, it is also a PS exclusive like Until Dawn. In the role of an architect disillusioned with life, you will have to find your missing youngest son Sean in three days and unravel a very dark and thoughtful thread of history. Will you be able to figure it all out and catch a certain mysterious maniac hiding under the name “Master of Origami”?

System Requirements Heavy Rain:

  • PS 3;
  • PS4.

Beyond: Two Souls. Another excellent representative of the genre, which for some reason players often try to avoid after hearing enough stories about the mediocrity of the gameplay. You, in the role of a young girl, Jodie, will have to live 16 years of life and experience various situations. The point is that the girl is extremely difficult - she has hidden abilities and can contact the other world. Naturally, the game touches on the issue of life after death.

Beyond: Two Souls system requirements:

  • PS 3;
  • PS4.

Detroit: Become Human. It just so happened that best games in this genre they are released exclusively on consoles, and 99% of them are Play Station. This happened with this game, the release of which is scheduled for early 2018. You have to take control of the world's first android with an independent artificial consciousness. The problem is that people still perceive androids as servants, and the heroine will have to find herself in such a rather unfair world.

Detroit: Become Human system requirements:

At the moment, these five are the most interesting and in demand, as well as the most perfect in terms of interactivity and variability of choice. We hope you liked this top - stay with us, it will be more interesting.
