They are most often found in various countries of Western Europe (BENELUX, Germany, Italy, etc.) and Asian countries (China, India, etc.). This type of checkers was created in the 18th century in France; they are often also called Polish checkers, since it was a Polish checkers lover who came up with a board measuring ten by ten squares. It is believed that international checkers were invented in Paris in 1723. The goal of the game is to win all the opponent's checkers or make his moves impossible (in common parlance - to lock). Also, victory is deserved if the enemy has announced that he is surrendering.

Most people who live in the territory of the former Soviet Union played Russian checkers, which are the most popular among us. Their main difference from international checkers is the size playing field(for Russian checkers the size is sixty-four cells (eight rows and eight columns), and for international checkers one hundred cells (ten rows and ten columns)) and in the number of checkers themselves.

If in more familiar checkers the game format is twelve versus twelve checkers, then in international checkers the format is slightly different - twenty versus twenty. The rules of moves are the same. But there are certain differences. Feature when receiving a queen, and the possibility of her moves. You also need to kill the enemy greatest number figures. That is, if it is possible to take one or three checkers, then it is necessary to take exactly three, despite the possible subsequent negative consequences for oneself from such a move.

Rules of the program for playing hundred-cell (international) checkers

The game takes place on a board measuring 10 x 10 cells along dark fields of the board. In the starting position, the player has 20 white or black checkers located on the first four rows of the board.
White makes the first move. The goal of the game is to deprive the opponent of moves by destroying or locking his checkers.

The game can also end in a draw if the players agree with this result.

The DAM program, having determined a situation that it considers a draw, will display the word Draw in the status field. Draw positions are those positions where:

  1. the position is repeated a third time during one game,
  2. made 10 or more moves in a situation of 1 king against the opponent’s 1, 2 or 3 kings,
  3. more than 25 moves were made, during which the balance of forces did not change, i.e. there was not a single battle.

Hundred-cell checkers can only move diagonally, and there are two types - simple and king. A simple move moves forward one square diagonally if the destination field is not occupied.

A simple checker can beat an opponent's checker in any of the four diagonal directions if the opponent's checker (or king) is in an adjacent cell, and behind it, diagonally in the same direction, is a free field. The battle is carried out by “jumping” over the enemy’s checker onto this free field. If after this fight you can beat him further, then this must be done. If you have a choice of several battle options, the “majority” rule works - i.e. You must hit the largest number of enemy checkers.
If the battle options are equivalent in terms of the number of hundred-cell checkers, then you can choose any direction of the battle.

The enemy is removed after completing the entire battle. It should be noted right away that if at least one fight is possible, then you must definitely fight!

A simple checker, having completed its move (or battle) on the last row, turns into a king and, starting from the next move, can move according to the rules of a king. If a simple one enters the transformation field at the moment of combat and at the same time can continue the battle according to the rules of combat of a simple checker, then the transformation into a king does not occur.

The queen can move to any number of squares along any of the four diagonals.
