An analogue of the game Far Cry 4. Games similar to Far Cry

Reviewing Far Cry games is no easy task. Such difficulties are caused by the diversity of each part of the game: the first, second and third parts are clearly different, while the fourth and fifth parts are more reminiscent of Far Cry 3. And the plot of the game "Far Cry Primal“generally takes us to the “Stone Age.” And one more problem: all the games in the series are well made. In this family there is no one representative on whom the developers would rest. All these factors complicate the situation.

But the work must be done, despite the fact that there are so many difficulties in it. Below you'll see a list that we've put together in a very unscientific way to try to rank the games in the series (not counting Far Cry: Instincts, which was only released on consoles). And yet, this list, like all the other lists we have compiled, should turn out to be impeccable. So, we expect your flattering comments.

And here is the list itself, which ranks the games from the Far Cry series, in order from worst to best.

Blood Dragon is an all-around enjoyable spin-off from Far Cry 3, presented in a humorous manner that some may find unnecessary. It essentially offers everything the same as the original, but in a more grotesque form, referring us to the culture of the 80s, to the films and games of that period, and this decision may seem controversial to some.

But you can't help but enjoy the game. The neon versions of creatures from Far Cry 3 that roam around are pleasing to the eye, and it’s also nice that the game has become more straightforward, because the crafting system has been removed from it and the leveling system has been simplified. We throw a cyber heart to attract a bloody dragon, watch how it wreaks havoc and destruction, and move on to the next checkpoint. If you think that 20+ hours spent in Far Cry 3 or 4 is too tiring, then Blood Dragon with its minimalism will be a real breath of fresh air.

Rewinding time to 10,000 BC is a great way for the series to freshen up its setting. Of course, in Primal there is no firearms. No cars, planes or radio towers (thank the gods). In a way, it’s great that the familiar Far Cry gameplay fits so well into an environment where there are no weapons or all-terrain vehicles.

But there is another side to the coin: Primal works according to old principles, and therefore does not stand out very much. Stone Age or not, it's still the same Far Cry, which cannot be confused with anything, and which offers almost nothing new. Of course, the ability to tame animals has become a big plus, and the arsenal has now been reduced to bows, clubs and spears (there is also a convenient bee hive that can be used as a grenade), we spend most of our time hunting and crafting - that is, the same activities as in other parts of the series. Primal takes us back millennia, but it feels like Far Cry 3 or 4 in a shiny package.

With minor changes, the fifth part was created on the basis of the third and fourth parts. Still, small changes are also welcome: the game does not have a clearly sequential skill tree, which will allow you to develop your character's skills in any order, according to your play style. The crafting system has been simplified. You can get an additional slot for weapons and ammunition using skills.

This means you no longer have to deliberately hunt certain animals. The creators wanted to immerse the player in the beautiful and chaotic Montana, while adding a minimum number of roadblocks to the game.

Unfortunately, the game's enemies challenge your freedom of action and distract you from truly enjoying this very world. You'll have to listen to their rambling monologues instead of immersing yourself in an open world adventure. The problem is that the enemies are weak and narrow-minded. It won't be difficult for you to defeat them.

The world of Far Cry 5 remains a fun sandbox of chaos and destruction. If the developers had done a better job on enemy mechanics and dialogue, we wouldn't have ranked the game so low.

For many players, Far Cry 2 is their favorite part, but this does not automatically make it the best, because if you love something, this does not mean that you need to turn a blind eye to the shortcomings of the object of your love. And several of these flaws come to mind: the hero is infected with malaria even before the end of the opening credits, which is why he can run very short distances, control points located in the jungle serve as a respawn point for endless suicide bombers who rush headlong at us, and if you accidentally turn off the quest road and walk around the outskirts of local villages, you will discover how empty and dull this virtual world is.

Of course, it's not all bad. The chosen setting (a hot African province) is one of the most compelling settings we've ever seen in a game. The fire system looks and works fantastically great, perhaps even better than in newer games. The fire here spreads from dry grass to trees, and then to buildings - and this is very convenient when you are trying to smoke out a crowd of enemies from another shack. The main thing at this moment is to take a safe point yourself, so as not to find yourself in the very center of the fire. The story reveals notes of nihilism that are fresh for the series, one location gives way to another, larger one, right in the middle of the game, and the shooting here (if you use purchased weapons, since all sorts of rubbish is usually lying on the ground) is implemented beyond all praise.

I must note the ambition of the project and the presentation of the new setting, although all this is slightly inferior to the worlds from latest games. I'm aware that Far Cry 2 isn't everyone's cup of tea due to its controversial level design, but everyone has different tastes. Sometimes everyone just wants to break into the enemy base on the back of an elephant.

I also like the detailed fire system in Far Cry 2. And another nuance that I appreciated and, apparently, the Firewatch developers noticed, is the very idea that the map is not a game menu, but a real object that we are holding in hands. As for me, this is one of the ways to emphasize the reality of the world in which our hero finds himself.

Previously, we played as retired military personnel and experienced mercenaries, while main character Far Cry 3 named Jason Brody was an ordinary young guy who suddenly found himself in the midst of not the most pleasant events. And it’s embarrassing that he kills hundreds of people without a twinge of conscience, soars in the air, wearing a wingsuit, and does everything the same as trained fighters from previous episodes. He, of course, whines for the first couple of hours about how he’s an ordinary guy and all this is beyond his capabilities, but it doesn’t look very convincing.

Since this series, the Far Cry developers have become interested in crafting, and, it seems to us, they have gone a little overboard with it: for example, we need to kill several animals in order to craft a wallet in which we can store money. And the animals from Far Cry 3 are much more interesting in those rare moments when they decide to hunt themselves, running out of the jungle right in the middle of a firefight between mercenaries and rebels and indiscriminately attacking everyone. The entire island is like an explosive chain of dominoes, where all it takes is knocking down one bone to cause natural chaos. Sometimes watching the madness going on is even more interesting than participating in it.

Fortunately, from time to time you can take a break from protracted and not always exciting story missions(remember, you're trying to save your friends and fix the boat so you can escape, even though there are a ton of fully functioning boats on the island) to do something more fun. Yes, and here they solved one of the main problems of Far Cry 2: as soon as you capture a control point, it becomes yours. Enemies no longer respawn on it and attack you whenever you decide to drive past.

I don’t remember all the details very well anymore, but Far Cry 3 stuck in my mind for two reasons: firstly, it’s my favorite part of the series, because it doesn’t have malaria included in the gameplay mechanics, and secondly, I really liked the weapons in game. I even collected them - from the powerful Bull shotgun to the lethal Shredder machine gun.

And to open each type of weapon, you will have to work hard, collecting the necessary items (after all, just to craft a wallet, we need to find 10 skins), but I set out to get all the weapons in the game. And once I achieved this, my interest in the game quickly faded. It was a similar story with collecting exotic weapons in Destiny. In fact, I also remember that Far Cry 3 was a kind of vacation for me. A crazy, adrenaline-pumping holiday full of gun-wielding villains, but also full of sunny beaches.

It's hard to judge how the original Far Cry stacks up against modern games—we haven't played it in quite some time—but it was surprisingly good when it was released. Of course, it was very demanding on hardware (after all, this is a Crytek game), but at least it had flexible graphics settings and looked quite decent even on average computers by the standards of those times.

The original Far Cry stood out due to its huge open world and the rather aggressive soldiers who inhabited it. The shootouts did not take place in scripted corridors - the stealth system and large open spaces turned each encounter into a game of cat and mouse, where you were the mouse. A few hours later, monsters appeared in the plot, and suddenly the mercenaries were no longer masters of the jungle. Now the new entertainment was to lure the soldiers closer to the monster and hide in the bushes, watching their clash - this was a kind of testing of the player’s skills.

By modern standards combat mechanics Far Cry already looks noticeably outdated, because too well-aimed enemies with supernatural accuracy raise a lot of questions. In addition, the game came out before the era of inventive kill animations from behind, and therefore stealth required more patience and perseverance. However, there's no denying that Far Cry had a major influence on the open-space genre.

For a series where each subsequent installment reinvented the genre (and Far Cry 1, 2 and 3 are strikingly different from each other), Far Cry 4 at first seemed, if not a step back, then marking time. It took as its basis the gameplay from the previous part, practically without changing it. With only two years between the releases of Far Cry 3 and Far Cry 4, the games looked like twin brothers, but the value of the fourth game lay in its important nuances.

Firstly, the talkative Jason Brody was replaced by a new protagonist, Ajay Gale, who was more silent, which allowed players to independently complete his image in their heads. And the reason why he found himself in the middle of an armed conflict between soldiers and freedom fighters was no longer down to simple bad luck - Ajay had returned to the Kirat region to scatter the ashes of his mother, and the local rebels were a military group organized by his father. Moreover, Pagai Min, a colorful and charismatic villain, had too close contact with Ajay's mother in the past, and therefore the appearance of the main character in Kirat carries a number of personal motives.

Kyrat itself is a beautiful, and sometimes chaotic sandbox, full of mountains and plains, which you can move around with the help of new devices like gyrocopters, a grappling hook and the already familiar wingsuit, which was in our arsenal almost at the beginning of the game. The extremely aggressive fauna has also returned, representatives of which can always be set on unsuspecting soldiers and enjoy the spectacle. In addition, we could now ride on elephants, overturning cars and scattering enemies in all directions.

In addition to scripted story missions, capturing control points again became one of the most interesting parts of the game, because we could do it in any way possible. Some of these points were real fortresses that had to be taken by storm, and there was something exciting about that. And since we're talking about a game from Ubisoft, the map was literally crowded side quests, mini-tasks and simple interesting places. They had virtually no effect on the plot, but they created a very convincing illusion of a living world. Add co-op to this (with the exception of story missions) and you will understand that Far Cry 4 is full of content a crazy sandbox that encourages us to create chaos and destruction.

It's no secret that the first part of Just Cause was dull and monotonous, surprising few people. Although the authors came up with interesting ideas, they failed to develop them, and four years later, in 2010, the 2nd part was released on PC, PS3 and Xbox360. Will she be able to please us? Straight to the point - the graphics have become better, although even for 2010 they are not very expressive, the ideas have been developed, but there are a lot of complaints.

Paris of the 40s in anticipation of the Second World War and all this is seasoned with a sabotage theme in dark gray tones, almost like in the film Sin City. The gameplay of the game is at the level of 2002, but thanks to its style, you don’t pay much attention to it, because The Saboteur is a fairly strong cocktail of the best, even if not the most advanced.

In a stark yellow color scheme, we are presented with a world after the fall of an asteroid, where chaos and devastation reign in the best traditions of Mad Max. The self-proclaimed government imposes a world order, and renegades, mutants and opposition groups are rampaging in the modest provinces.

Interactive Entertainment June 23, 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The well-developed fourth game in this series, Far Cry 4, features a large number of innovations, but the creators still wanted to retain some of the previous elements and characteristics. This applies, first of all, to the place where the events take place. As before, you will find yourself on an island filled with sunshine and warmth. But this time the land will be divided into several parts, and this can be seen on the map, or you can walk around the island yourself, but you will have to spend a lot of time on this. A first-person shooter released by Deep Shadows in 2008 on PC (in 2016, this Far Cry-type game became available on Steam) and is a direct continuation of the first part - Xenus: Boiling Point.

Xenus 2, in addition to the shooting mechanics familiar to a shooter and an open, vibrant world, contains RPG elements, namely a large number of perks, dialogues with answer options, consumable items, inventory, several factions, side quests and so on. Also present here large selection transport for faster and more convenient movement around the southern part of Colombia, where the plot of Xenus 2 takes place.

9. Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

To be more precise, it is hunting that will form the basis gameplay theHunter: Primal, and you will be able to hunt representatives of the fauna of the Mesozoic era: huge walking, flying and waterfowl lizards. As for survival, it is implemented quite simply: using the initially available PDA, the player can track the location of more than powerful weapons and ammunition, in return for his rather mediocre bow. Also in theHunter: Primal there is co-op, which allows you to hunt dinosaurs in the company of a friend.

7. Dead Island

From dinosaurs we smoothly move on to zombies. Dead Island is a survival shooter from the Polish company Techland, the events of which take the player to a tropical resort island ravaged by a zombie epidemic. The unusual combination of sunny mood with disgusting bloody scenes is successfully complemented by an exciting combat system, which is based on hand-to-hand combat using unusual objects that are at hand.

The player will have to break the skulls of the obsessive dead with the help of oars, clubs, baseball bats, hammers, pipes and other interesting objects, many of which can be upgraded or even made by yourself thanks to the impressive crafting system present here. I would also like to note the presence of four game characters, each with its own pumpable skills, divided into branches (survival, combat, rage, and so on).

6. Just Cause 3

The third part of the legendary Just Cause series pleases with a huge open world with a very significant level of destruction of surrounding objects, an impressive set of weapons and vehicles, as well as improved gameplay mechanics. Among the innovations, it is worth noting the appearance of a wingsuit, which successfully complements the parachute and grappling hook already present in the second part, as well as the division of the local island into five cultural and climatic regions, each with its own topography, climate and unique architectural objects.

5. Crysis 3

A sci-fi shooter from Crytek, released in 2013, but still capable of pleasantly surprising with the quality of its images. Thanks to the improved CryEngine 3 engine, the world of Crysis 3, which is surrounded by an impenetrable dome, half destroyed and immersed in the jungle of New York, has become incredibly believable and interesting to explore. Also, the nanosuit, which gives the hero unique capabilities, has not gone away, in addition to which the game now has a composite bow with several types of arrows, so beloved by players and which has become a signature feature of the third part.

4. Dying Light

Another amazing open-world zombie game, despite its setting, is still similar to Far Cry 3. The game was developed by Techland, which took many of its ideas from the zombie survival game Dead Island described above, and brought them to perfection, adding to everything This includes an exciting parkour system and a multiplayer mode with asymmetrical gameplay called “Be the Zombie.” Of course, the graphics in Dying Light meets all modern requirements, and the world surprises with its size, abundance of secrets and additional tasks.

3. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands

2.Far Cry 4

It is probably strange to see other games from the Far Cry series in the selection, because the fact that they have similar features is obvious. But since each new part Far Cry unpredictably changes the setting and acquires unexpected game elements, we decided to present here two games from this franchise, which seem to us closest to the third part.

So, Far Cry 4 is the game that comes closest to the success of its legendary predecessor, and this is by no means accidental. An exotic setting awaits players here, this time represented by the fictional kingdom of Kirat, located in the foothills of the Himalayas, with a treacherous, seemingly slightly insane main villain. high level freedom, various additional missions and other activities, and, of course, “towers”.

1. Far Cry Primal

The latest part of the franchise at the moment, the action of which will take players to the Stone Age. This means that instead of machine guns, bows and spears await us, and instead of armored cars, woolly rhinoceroses and mammoths. The gameplay, by and large, remains the same, with all the features described above, adjusted for a new, very unusual setting.

Other games similar to Far Cry 3 with lots of freedom of action: Rage, GTA 4, GTA 5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fallout 4, Borderlands 2, Saints Row 4, Prey (2017), BioShock Infinite, Deus Ex series, Dishonored series, series Watch Dogs, Mafia series.
