Quest silent hill d cube. Performance quest based on Silent Hill - good or bad

The franchise, codenamed Silent Hill, appeared 19 years ago. During this time she managed to become an integral part popular culture. Not long ago, a quest based on the game opened, the events of which develop in virtual reality, and we couldn’t miss it.

A virtual horror quest is a rather rare thing. We expected something in the spirit of computer games with a huge number of screamers. But the creators decided to move away from the usual concept and focused on the plot and atmosphere. So, although there were many mystical moments and encounters with monsters, they did not intend to scare us into hysteria. This is a roaming adventure in the dark world of Silent Hill.

How does it all work? We were wearing virtual reality glasses, headphones, and gamepads in our hands. Move around virtual world was carried out by teleportation, however, since all players were on their feet, it was possible to physically move with their legs a couple of meters around themselves. Each player was in his own separate space, fenced off with fabric, in order to prevent random collisions in reality.

It is worth noting that the quest is an exclusive development. It was specially created, drawn and programmed to work exactly here. The game literally took place on the streets of the city. Every now and then we went into various buildings, one of the tasks in each of them was to fully study them. We walked, walked, walked, climbed stairs, went down, wandered along the corridors. And all this in an atmosphere of suspense, because every dark corner can hide anything. Moreover, in each building a new twist of the plot, new scenery and new fear awaited us. Here we have selected the most atmospheric places for horror films - a church, a hospital and much more. So the area is really huge, like in a computer game.

In the technical component of the project, I was pleased that the graphics are pleasing to the eye. Nothing here broke the immersion. All the tasks here are plot actions in the game setting. That is, in church we saw crosses, and in school, for example, boxes with things. And in general the scenery is drawn in very detail. The quest also has an action component. In one hand throughout the game there was a pistol, which was used many times for its intended purpose. After all, those same monsters, nurses and Pyramid Head lived there. There was also a battle with the final boss, which required some skill and quick reaction.

Still, it’s no secret that for many, Silent Hill is one of their favorite horror universes. Yes, because the authors came up with a whole world with its own monsters and laws. Therefore, it was extremely interesting to see another interpretation of this topic at the quest, and even in VR format. The result is such a mystical adventure game!

A quiet town on the shores of Lake Toluca is always looking for new victims. An unknown force draws wounded souls to Silent Hill, where they find peace. This time, the foggy tentacles of the city have reached out to “Gaming Mania.” Using the command D-Cube We visited the damned city, but got out of there alive and ready to share our impressions.

Battered but happy

The rapidly growing popularity of questrooms passed me by for a long time. Many friends visited them and tried to drag me in, but I remained adamant. Partly due to a lack of confidence in my puzzle-solving abilities, partly due to doubts that I could immerse myself in the atmosphere of the “show” without constantly asking myself what I was doing here.

My stubbornness gave way only with an invitation to a quest dedicated to Silent Hill,” said the boundless love for the series. In addition, they promised a terribly believable setting and downright ruthless performance: before the start of the quest, they politely explained to us that we would be beaten. To tell the truth, this only reassured me - after getting nuts from the nurses and Pyramid Head, you willy-nilly believe in the reality of what is happening.

The atmosphere at the place was not at all creepy: smiling organizers, a comfortable sofa, even tea and cookies. But suddenly a familiar siren sounded, the lights went out, and the organizers disappeared somewhere. We were surrounded by darkness, dirt, rust and eerie rustling sounds. I need to think, solve puzzles, but I stand rooted to the spot, reliving the trip to the panic room in my distant childhood. I came to my senses quickly, but for more impressionable people a similar acute effect could probably last for the entire passage.

And yes, we really got a good beating in the process. True, we ourselves crushed and pushed each other more - we had to run, climb and climb a lot, and given the lack of time and monsters advancing from all sides, we had to do it quickly and chaotically. But solving puzzles in such an atmosphere is not easy. But perhaps my inexperience affected me - when visiting a quest for the first time, you have little idea of what you need to grab hold of and where to look first.

Of course, we caused trouble for the organizers. And the decorations were picked where they weren’t supposed to, and important objects were lost, and we got stuck on problems so that our faces, flushed with shame, were visible even in the dark. We got out, having greatly exceeded the allotted time limit, dirty, beaten, in torn protective suits, but happy. The main thing cannot be canceled - it was creepy, but fun.

D-Cube Team

In fact, we always ask the players what they want - an easy walk around the city or a "hard" game with full contact - and based on this we decide which scenario our "creatures" will adhere to. We always try to give our guests what they want, and if possible even more! By the way, mostly the public wants to be tough, so everyone understands perfectly well what they are signing up for, and we see almost no response aggression from the players - only screams. We are always immersed in the atmosphere and sense of danger “at one hundred percent”, because no one knows what to expect from the “creatures” and what “harm” they can cause.

My heart stopped

I'm an avid quest enthusiast, and most of the quests I've been through have been scary events with the participation of actors. Every time I go to a game it is with the mindset of being scared from the bottom of my heart, and Silent Hill gave me so many thrills that, as the song says, my heart stopped, my heart froze.

D-Cube have thought through every room, it seems, down to the last stroke of peeling paint on the wall. We had to circle around the coffin in the sacrifice hall, and crawl through the ventilation, and encounter charming nurses, and put a lot of effort into saving our own skins in other locations.

And there were really a lot of them, and we didn’t feel safe in any of them. And how terribly everything creaked, knocked and rustled! Only the music let us down. Despite my sincere love for the compositions of Akira Yamaoka and Jeff Danna, the five looped tracks at the end of the second hour managed to get boring, but this did not spoil the overall impression.

Usually performances don't have too many puzzles, but Silent Hill had plenty of them. Basically, they boiled down to the standard “put the puzzle together - find the key - figure out the code” pattern, but each riddle fit well into the game space, and the sudden appearances of characters left no chance to think through at least one problem calmly and with concentration.

And finally, the most important thing in a good performance is the characters that inhabit the space. The D-Cube makeup probably deserves a separate article, so I’ll just say that all the monsters looked believable and infernal at the same time. The guys were incredibly pleased with their ability to adapt to any action of the players - their improvisation was more than organic. I would like to say a huge thank you to the director: all the interactive mini-performances were incredibly intense and did not have time to get boring at all.

It’s easy to make me fear every sound, but not a single quest in my memory has ever left such a long-lasting aftertaste. And I, even knowing all its secrets and pitfalls, really want to return there again. For the atmosphere, for the drive and, as the organizers say, for the soul remaining in the foggy city.

D-Cube Team

All players are different - the speed of passing and solving riddles also varies accordingly. Our team tries to quickly navigate and act according to the situation. We are ready for anything - if the team slows down and gets stuck, we change the scenario on the fly and help the players solve the problem. At the same time, the actors act exclusively within the framework of the role, and everything goes naturally, without compromising the atmosphere.

Someone else's faith is infectious

Let's start with the fact that Silent Hill is a serious part of my life. As a toddler, I watched my father play the first part, years later I myself held back the stingy male tears at the finale of the second part, watched the disc with the film adaptation until it was full of holes and wrote bad fan fiction. In short, Quiet Hill is closer to me than the city outside my window. Participation in a quest, cosplay party, role-playing game or something else like that, it was only a matter of time - every true fan sooner or later comes to dressing up.

The only thing I was afraid of was handicraft. This world is too dear to me to see how they are trying to mold it from sticks and acorns. I’ve already been on quests a couple of times and am used to the feeling of slight disappointment at moments when paint-splattered wires coming out from the next “magical artifact” came out. I have to constantly remind myself that the organizers tried, they made everything themselves, and in general, what did I actually expect? This time I had to repeat to myself that it was all make-believe.

No, I seem to be a relatively mature, healthy, boring person and I can still distinguish reality from the show, but, damn it, sometimes I really forgot for a few seconds that the world around me was not the same one that James Sunderland and Harry Mason roamed around. That ordinary guys in makeup are chasing us, and not monsters generated by a sick imagination. That the idiot's dream did not come true and I did not end up in the real Silent Hill.

Of course, it's all about the highest level performance and, no matter how cliché it may sound, in the soul. I felt that the people creating this quest had the same tender feelings for SH as I did, and therefore they were giving it their all. They themselves madly want to believe in what they create with their own hands. Therefore, if there were any loose wiring in that ill-fated dungeon through which we wandered, no one even noticed them. Someone else's faith is infectious.

D-Cube Team

Our quest is the result of a symbiosis of several driving parties, inspired by one idea. On the one hand, there is a professional dance group and show production specialists. Back in 2010, we did a whole performance show on the theme of Silent Hill. On the other hand, there are cosplayers, fans of this universe. They were the ones who attended the concert with Akira Yamaoka and Mary-Elizabeth McGlynn and received the approval of the maestro himself.

Therefore, the question “what topic to choose for the quest” did not arise. The decorations were made by people who love Silent Hill and the atmosphere of this city. There was not even a specific plan for what and how to decorate. For the most part, everything was born in the process. We just looked and thought what would be better to add, what to remove, and what to redo.

First acquaintance

To my great shame, I have never played a game in the Silent Hill series, but I have been on several quests and generally love riddles of all kinds. Therefore, I was almost the only one from our small brave company who appreciated the riddles first of all, and not the atmosphere. Although I admit, in the Silent Hill quest from D-Cube it is difficult to separate them from each other.

The quest is large, it takes two hours to complete, and the rooms are complemented by many branches and secret passages. The passage is nonlinear - several tasks can be solved simultaneously within one room - and so nonlinear that even the authors do not know all the possibilities. At one point we managed to successfully apply the wrong key in the wrong place, but only found out about it after the fact.

At its core, D-Cube's Silent Hill is a hybrid of a classic escape room and performance art, where puzzles are interspersed with encounters with Pyramid Head and nurses. The puzzles are consistent and logical, but most of them end with the opening of one lock or another, which is somewhat frustrating.

With actors it's even more difficult. On the one hand, they are designed to thicken the atmosphere and do an excellent job of this. But if the team suddenly starts to become stupid (and God knows, we are more stupid than ever), its members become hostage to their own images. And if you are backed into a corner, and you still haven’t figured out what to do next, they have to loom over you threateningly and push you towards the right door.

However, Silent Hill is one of the most unusual quests I've been involved in, thanks primarily to its seamless combination of puzzles and performance, seasoned with an otherworldly atmosphere.

D-Cube Team

Tasks and puzzles were invented during the development of the quest, but were polished and improved during the process test games. Initially, the riddles were much more complex, but in the process they simplified a lot. We still have horror, and in a constant atmosphere of fear and horror it is very difficult to think, analyze and make decisions. But the riddles have not lost anything in their interest!

Don't be a snob

Participation in the Silent Hill quest was a complete surprise for me: I agreed to this adventure literally the day before it began. In the Konami series, what I appreciate most is the atmosphere and story, but definitely not the puzzles, which for the most part always seemed illogical to me. The quest in reality promised an abundance of similar puzzles - however, mixed with the fresh emotions of a beginner in this kind of business. So I was cautiously optimistic.

The fears were partly justified. Unfortunately, complete immersion did not happen. Despite good game actors and lovingly recreated sets, I still often felt like I was part of a well-planned production, and not a random traveler who had wandered into Silent Hill. At the climax, the “monsters” will not hurt you, and, for good measure, you cannot fight them off.

What would you do if you were dragged across a dirty floor? That's right: they would resist with all their might and throw everything they could reach at the offender. But you shouldn’t do this: before the start, the organizers politely ask the actors not to injure themselves. So, after all, he is a man, and not a monster. So, he'll let him go. This means there is no real danger. And at the moment of this realization, the degree of tension drops significantly lower than the thrill-seeker would like.

There was one more catch: in completing such quests, most of us great experience it didn’t, and the team often froze even in simple situations. What does the player do in such cases? computer game? Opens the manual or takes a break. Both options do not work under the given conditions, and therefore we had to wait patiently and listen to increasingly obvious prompts from the microphone.

But if you lower your standards and ignore the fact that the corpses are mannequins, the blood on the walls is just sticky red goo, and you are a dumbass, then you start to get a kick out of the process. The sequence of actions in the rooms is built logically, the puzzles require teamwork, and the joy from finally giving in to the door is close to ecstatic. In the process of passing, by the way, I had to crawl through narrow mines, and quickly run away, and even get a little angry from the inhabitants of the recreated town, so it is better to leave the expensive suit until the wedding and mentally prepare to take away a couple of abrasions and bruises as a souvenir. By the way, the costumes of the actors are amazing - they look like they came straight out of screenshots. And this is the best compliment that can be given here.

If you are hungry for new experiences, feel free to gather a team of like-minded people and go on a quest. The main thing is don't be a snob like me and don't expect too much. Then the pleasure from the process will cover minor shortcomings.

D-Cube Team

We try to improve or modify our quest whenever possible, based either on our own observations or on the opinions of the teams after completion. Therefore, every review is important to us. It’s interesting for us too, because it’s always great to try something new. Now the mechanics in one of the locations have been almost completely redone, and the “creatures” have become much more dangerous. They decided to release the “Gambling Mania” team alive and unharmed, without any major injuries or mutilations!

As befits a quest in the horror genre, the playground is decorated in dark colors and complemented by creepy interior items and dilapidated furniture. Despite the fact that the decorations are rather ascetic, the rooms do not feel empty. The soundtrack is on par, but sometimes it seems that it completely disappears and the location is drowning in silence and darkness, which, however, only fuels the feeling of horror. By the end of the quest, there is a slight drop in tension, although the authors of the game made the ending as dynamic as possible: in the finale, players have no time to reflect and look around the environment, but need to act quickly, which is encouraged by both the plot and what is happening around them.

Plot

As the title suggests, the plot is built around video games and the movie Silent Hill. However, if you are not familiar with the story, this is not a hindrance to the passage. In the story, players find themselves in a city inhabited by creatures that have gone crazy. These residents can either harm the team or provide assistance - who knows what is in their minds. The main task of the game is to get out of the crazy place, overcoming all the obstacles. The plot of the quest develops - players gradually learn the history of the city and a spectacular ending.

Tasks

Usually in performances there are few tasks for attentiveness and ingenuity, and most often they are arranged in such a way that the players are helped in finding a solution by a voice belonging to either the operator or a character in the game. This same performance simultaneously combines logical riddles and immersion in an eerie atmosphere. Despite the fact that the puzzles are quite easy, you have to solve them in a state of constant tension and fear, which adds additional complexity to solving problems.

Service

The location is a 10-minute walk from the Kurskaya or Chkalovskaya metro stations. The location is spacious, and two teams can easily fit here without interfering with each other. The work of the girl operator who leads the quest is beyond praise. She not only helped and communicated with us during the process, but also completely got used to the role assigned to her in the script.

Total

“Silent Hell” is a quest in the horror genre, in which you will not only have to experience horror and endurance, but also decide logic problems. If you love thrillers, but quests in this genre have always lacked an intellectual component, pay attention to this game. In addition to the presence of riddles, there is a well-preserved gloomy atmosphere and high-quality decorations. The cameraman plays an important role in immersing players in the plot. It not only fulfills its main function - guiding the players, but also raises the degree of horror that they encounter during the passage. Quest "Silent Hell" is quite good game, which will pleasantly please quest lovers and cause a storm of emotions among beginners.
