Skyrim 5 mission on the ebony blade. TES V SKYRIM Mephala's Ebony Blade

Universe of games The Elder Srcolls is replete with all sorts of otherworldly mystical entities, both positive and negative. Somewhere they interfere invisibly, somewhere openly, and in some cases their interference is so insignificant that you can’t imagine main character perform random side quest, I would never have known what I could achieve and what reward I could receive.

One of these entities are the Daedric princes; they are often credited with divine origin. The hero meets them on his way, traveling through the world of the game "Skyrim". The Ebony Blade is one of the unusual rewards waiting for its owner.

Town rumors

To receive the quest you must be level 20 or higher. This is the "Dragon in the Sky" quest, which consists of killing the dragon Mirmulnir (the first dragon kill in the game) at the Western Watchtower, which is located near Whiterun. The quest giver is the innkeeper Hulda in the Whiterun tavern "The Prancing Mare". She will not answer the question of how to get an ebony blade, but will tell you about the city rumors that are circulating around the person of Jarl Balgruuf, who sits in Dragonsreach (the jarl's castle in Whiterun). They say that one of the earl's sons is excessively cruel, the other two have an evil eye, and it is recommended to stay away from them. Dovahkiin needs to talk to the jarl about his sons.

It should be noted that it does not matter at what time the quest will be received: before the siege of Whiterun by the Stormcloaks or after. In the first case, the jarl will be in his place - on the throne in Dragon's Reach - and will tell about the hot-tempered and careless behavior of his son Nelkir, asking to talk to the boy as soon as possible.

If the city has already been captured by the Stormcloaks, it can be found in the dungeons of the Blue Palace in the city of Solitude. However, the jarl's children will still remain in Whiterun.

Children of Balgruuf

Having undertaken to investigate the reasons for the defiant behavior of the youth of Dragon's Reach, Dovahkiin should know that Balgruuf has three children: daughter Dagny and sons Frotar and Nelkir. Frotar seems to be the most sensible of all. The boy will willingly tell you that he is learning to hold a sword, but his father constantly dissuades the boy from this idea, citing his young age. Frotar also tends to reproach his sister Dagny for being too spoiled.

The oddities of the jarl's daughter boil down to constant reproaches against Dragon's Reach, as well as specific culinary preferences in the form of bloody meat.

Nelkir behaves defiantly: he is constantly rude and rude. And when mentioning Balgruuf, he will not speak very flatteringly about him, mentioning that the jarl hates the Thalmor, continues to worship Talos, and will also make it clear about his own indignation due to some family troubles.

Further developments of events will make the protagonist understand that the boy is under the influence of a mysterious demonic entity that has established mental contact with him and is gradually changing the boy for the worse.

Whispering in the Dark

Her name is Mephala, the Daedra princess. And she whispers from behind a door littered with hay in the basement of Dragon's Reach. From a conversation with the Daedra, it becomes clear that there is something valuable behind the door. The key to the door is either the jarl himself or the court magician Farengar Secret Fire, as the boy tells Dovahkiin.

The key can either be stolen or taken from a dead body. But it should be borne in mind that the jarl cannot be killed. Having unlocked the door in the basement, Dovahkiin finds a blade (katana) on the table and the book “Beware of the Blade,” which talks about the destructive effects of such.

Once you take Mephala's ebony blade in your hands, the Daedra herself will speak to the hero. She will talk about how to strengthen weapons, because magical properties long lost. However, restoring them will be very expensive; Mephala wants the hero to kill characters who treat him well: companions, merchants with whom relationships have been established, close people whom Dovahkiin acquired in the vastness of the province of Skyrim. The ebony blade acquires the ability to absorb the enemy’s health, for which it has earned the name “Leech” or “Vampire”.

Secrets on the way to Skyrim

Ebony Blade upon reaching maximum level pumping will notify Dovahkiin about this in the voice of Mephala herself.

If you turn to the resources of the game itself, you can find a mention that the quest could be expanded. According to the script, the children were supposed to completely fall under the influence of Mephala and kill their father. After the death of the jarl, the throne was to be taken by his brother Hrongar. But the jarl is one of the key characters, and his death would break many quest chains. The quest has been changed due to difficulty technical implementation the original intentions of the developers.

If you delve deeper into the study of this issue, you can find a number of console commands to run this script. But first, a patch must be installed that removes the “mark of immortality” from Jarl Balgruuf, since the key characters in the game cannot die due to the prescribed system code.

Some unofficial patches correct flaws storyline. In particular, when Whiterun was captured by troops of the Storm Brothers, the children of Jarl Balgruuf did not remain in Dragonsreach, but went to Solitude with him.

Cheats for receiving items in Skyrim

You can get an ebony blade without having a conversation with the boy. There are script commands that allow you to get any item from the game. It is enough to know the necessary script commands and item ids.

But not everyone likes this method, because then the game loses all meaning. With the help of cheat codes, the player can fill his inventory with the best weapons or armor and anything else (everything he encounters has item IDs), pump up his skills to the maximum and run through the expanses of Skyrim without experiencing any difficulties in battle with a randomly encountered enemy. About the impressions of fights with dragons on high level difficulties will also have to be forgotten.

In view of the above, cheats are usually used by players who have already traveled the length and breadth of Skyrim, pursuing the desire to relax a little while playing their favorite game and punch some dragon without devoting much time to the game.

Remember the book in the basement of Dragon's Reach? "Fear this blade!" - it said, and in fact - next to it on the table lay an ugly and very ambiguous in terms of use Ebony Blade, a gift from the Daedra Mephala. For the sword to gain full power, it was necessary to kill ten friends.
The author did not agree to kill friends, even gaming ones, so this mod was born, which allows you to reforge EC into other blades with different effects.

To work with EC, it is not enough to have the status of a blacksmith-wizard. Mephala is a vengeful entity, so seek divine support first. Pray at the altar of Zenithar, and after that in the smelter you can melt her blade into an ebony blank (if you managed to sell or lose Mephala’s sword, here is its ID: 0004A38F).
While you are under Zenithar's blessing, you can immediately forge a simple Ebony Blade from this blank, without any enchantments. To forge other swords from a blank, say prayers to the other gods of the Skyrim pantheon, and go to any anvil (Ebony section). The appearance of the blade will not change, but the effects will be different.

Below is a list of goodies that different deities will give:

  • Zenithar- forging a simple EC without enchantment, and the condition for smelting the workpiece;
  • Akatosh- fire damage upon impact, and setting enemies on fire when blocking - at a distance of five steps around, even through walls and around corners :) ;
  • Arkay- pumping out life and magic;
  • Dibella- the blow is not perceived as aggression;
  • Julianos- spell breaker shield by 75% when blocking;
  • Kynareth- soul capture and additional damage to animals;
  • Mara- ethereality when blocking;
  • Stendarr- additional damage to undead and exile of summoned creatures up to level 75;
  • Talos- additional damage to elves and stunning;
  • Nocturnal- she does not belong to the pantheon of gods, but in her favor she will allow Nightingale to forge a pair of short swords that have the speed of daggers and paralyze the enemy.

Any forged blade can be melted back into a blank by praying to Zenithar before doing so. If you need Mephala's former EC, go to the Heavenly Forge with Zenithar's blessing.

All weapons have Daedric damage. Blades cannot be knocked out of Dovahkiin's hands with disarming Shouts or techniques. The charge is not consumed and the enchantment cannot be removed. Only simple EC is available for self-enchantment. You can forge one- or two-handed swords. Dual Sheath Redux is supported.

Installation and removal- standard.
Mod changes appearance and the properties of the vanilla Ebony Blade, so if you have another EC replacer/booster installed, choose which one you need.

UPDATE 1.1

Fixed a bug when oncoming NPCs told Dovahkiin: “You are wearing a dangerous spell, don’t come closer.”
If, when updating the mod, you unexpectedly lose some of the effects of the EC (for example, setting enemies on fire at a distance from the Akatosh blade), melt the blade into a blank and into a vanilla EC, make a “clean” save without the mod, and then connect it again.

Notes:

  1. If you don't understand something, read the description again. If you do not have the required sword in the crafting list, check for the Blacksmith-Wizard perk, all ingredients (blank, dragon scales or leather/stripes on the scabbard) and blessings.
  2. As always, the author does not insist on his concept and does not impose it on anyone.

Revival of the Blade

After killing another victim with this Blade and the blade's Health Absorption effect increases, Mephala will talk to you to congratulate you on your success. The dialogue phrases with which she will address you will be random.

  • “Well done, my child.”
  • “I feel their grief boiling in my blade.”
  • “Their tears polish the ebony to a razor sharpness.”
  • “Oh, how the blood of deception saturates.”

When you kill your tenth and final victim, Mephala will be overjoyed and will finally tell you:

“Finally, my blade has returned to its former glory. Now go, child. Continue your secret war against the orders of trust and intimacy."
