We will play our old familiar hero without a name, better known as Nameless. I would like to note right away that in Risen 2 the hero’s appearance has changed slightly: his hair has noticeably lengthened, and a bandage has appeared on his eye, hiding traces of past injuries.

Immediately after the start of the Risen 2 game, the commandant of the castle, Carlos, will send you to examine the wreckage of a ship that was attacked and sunk by a sea monster near the island. Armed, we follow to the shore, where from the wreckage we can only see a girl, whom I call Patty, fleeing from sea monsters. It is she who will tell the main character of Risen 2 that pirates have long known a way to safely sail the seas without being attacked by sea monsters (evil irony). Our first and main task will be to find Patty’s father, Gregorius Steelbeard (remember this character from the previous part?) and with his help stop the destruction of the world.

In the game Risen 2, the plot also did not disappoint. It may seem narrow and focused from the start, but don't fall for this clever trick. The further you go into " Dark Waters", the freer and broader the plot of Risen 2 will become.

A little about Mira...

The Game World consists of two continents - Arborea in the South, and Old Empire in the North, which is now in decline, destroyed by fires and choked in desolation and ruin. There are also many islands of different sizes that are located between these two continents. Some of them are inhabited by people, the rest are either abandoned or shrouded in beliefs, secrets and ancient legends. The rest of the lands in the game Risen 2 were at the mercy of the Titans. The archipelago south of the Old Empire is located in South Seas. To the east of this Archipelago lie the islands of Faranga and Gaurus. At the moment, the Inquisition is actively trying to populate Arborea, because the Titans are not there, and to save humanity they need to find a place where people can continue to exist in peace.

There is safety in numbers

I would like to immediately note that the hero’s arsenal available in the game Risen 2 has definitely arrived. Both single-barreled and double-barreled musket-based weapons appeared, from which you can not only shoot, but also hit with a butt or, for example, a bayonet.

In Risen 2, a character's outfit consists of many elements, such as hats, pants, gloves, boots, jackets, earrings, rings, etc. An excellent character development system will be presented, which includes about 75 skill units, which will allow you to develop your character as you wish. Voodoo magic will also be presented.

The player will have the opportunity to get his own ship, which will serve as both a means of transportation around the world of Risen 2 and a permanent place of residence.

And what is a ship without a crew? In the game Risen 2 you can recruit people for your team from completely different factions. All team members will be on the ship, and while traveling overland, the hero can take one companion with him. Your teammates will have different skill sets, both combat and support.

It was also possible to get legendary items, which will increase the player’s abilities and skills. You can find out about their supposed location from books.

What we see or Risen 2 graphics

The graphics of Risen 2 are very decent. Beautiful depiction of houses, ships and distant landscapes, the background also did not disappoint. The precipitation is quite natural; there is even a feeling that you might get wet. The sea is also very beautifully drawn, which will return you back to the shore if you accidentally fall into the depths of the sea. Although the weather is not favorable to us at the very beginning, we can easily see the excellent Risen 2. Also, the creators did a good job on detailing the characters, on their facial expressions and behavior during conversations. Along the way we will be able to observe how the soldiers regularly carry out their service with muskets on their shoulders, the commander who conducts the morning divorce.

I also want to add that in Risen 2 combat system remained the same, which I think is just great news.

So what have we learned? Risen 2 is a worthy continuation of its predecessor, having improved elements of both the engine itself and graphics. The introduced innovations only brighten it up, adding intrigue and interest to the passage. So feel free to take out your sabers, load your pistols and muskets, gather a team of strong, loyal people, and go across the salty surface of the sea to save the World!

An inexperienced user may ask: “What is she known for and who are all these people?” The answer is simple - these are the creators of the famous Gothic universe. But neither the promotion of the brand nor its development helped them, and after the controversial Gothic 3, the Piranha Bytes studio and the publisher JoWooD Entertainment parted ways, with the latter receiving the rights to publish Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods and Arcania: Gothic 4.

It would seem that difficult times have come for the German forge, because its intellectual property was taken away. But talented developers did not sit idly by, but set about creating a new universe. As a result, the game Risen was released in October 2009. According to the studio staff, they took into account all the shortcomings of Gothic 3 and tried to correct them. The result was an excellent adventure RPG, made in the best traditions of German developers. The game gained recognition not only among critics, which does not happen often, but also among players.

Three years later, the long-awaited sequel Risen 2: Dark Waters was released, to which this material will be dedicated.

Brief description of game mechanics and the beginning of the storyline

Those who played the first part of Risen should remember that the universe of this game is built on the confrontation between people and gods. In the end, as usually happens, people won and the gods left the world, but instead of peace and prosperity, new troubles came - the titans awakened. Before the arrival of the gods, these giants were the rulers of the world of Risen, but the first defeated them and imprisoned them in magical dungeons.

Having awakened, the titans began to destroy human ships in the seas and oceans. The hero of the first part of Risen found out that the ancient rulers of the world posed a threat to the entire human race, and were not going to limit themselves to maritime expansion. At the end of the game, he defeated the fiery titan imprisoned in the bowels of the island.

Risen 2: Dark Waters begins with: big ship hurries to the harbor of Caldera - the headquarters of the Inquisition and the last bastion of people in the Old World. Not the most pleasant beginning, because the original Risen ended on a rather optimistic note - the titans can be defeated and people have hope of survival. But the very first footage of the burning city proved that it was a utopia.

The Unknown Hero turned out to be alive and well and never got a name. In addition, he joined the Inquisition and even received the officer rank of lieutenant. The messenger who came for him found him engaged in an extremely exciting activity - absorbing grog. The amount of empty utensils from under this swill, scattered throughout the room, eloquently spoke of the difficult struggle with the green serpent.

The courier expressed his dissatisfaction with the condition of Mr. Officer and said that Commandant Carlos was waiting for the hero on the tower.

Taking a closer look at the character, it turned out that he not only joined the Inquisition, but also lost his right eye... possibly in a drunken brawl.

Before the protagonist had time to get out of bed and walk a couple of steps, a courteous assistant suggested opening the inventory menu by pressing the “i” key. Opening it, significant changes were discovered in the interface. Just like in the game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, instead of a large inventory field, a breakdown into bookmarks has appeared: “Equipment”, “Useful”, “Junk” and “Everything”. In previous Piranha Bytes games, weapons and equipment were selected from the menu, and appearance character could be viewed by exiting it, then in Risen 2: Dark Waters a “doll” of the main character appeared, on which all changes are displayed.

In the “Equipment” submenu, instead of the old large field in which all the items were located “in a heap,” there is now a clear breakdown into right and left arms, head, body, legs, and so on. In each category you can select the necessary equipment or weapons. In principle, these innovations, although unusual, are very convenient.

From the very beginning of the game, our character, traditionally for all Piranha Bytes games, is equipped very poorly: a pistol, a ring and old pirate rags.

Having left the equipment menu, it was not possible to continue the journey - the assistant invited me to go to the “Journal” menu. Submenus were found in it: “Active tasks”, “All tasks” and “Characters”, the names of which speak eloquently for themselves.

Since I already had to actively look through the game menu, I decided to study the remaining categories in detail. The “Character” menu now has the following submenus: “Skills”, “Abilities”, “Abilities”, “Team” and “Collection”. In the first three categories you can develop active and passive abilities protagonist, however, this requires teachers - distinguishing feature, inherent in all games of the German “game forge”. The last two submenus were closed - they will most likely open as you progress storyline games.

In the category " Nautical chart» traditionally located global map, where the action of Risen 2: Dark Waters should unfold. The developers promised that the storyline would develop on the islands, of which there are six on the map. The size of these pieces of land turned out to be not so large, but do not be discouraged - Piranha Bytes has always been able to create large and diverse worlds, just like the detail of a modest island in the original Risen.

An attempt to take a closer look at the current location resulted in a message that this could not be done because there was no map of the area. It’s not surprising, the guys from the famous studio like to make life as difficult as possible for the players: if you want to study the surrounding area in detail, first, if you please, find its map.

Leaving the room, the main character saw the same burning city and Commandant Carlos on the tower.

At this point I'll step away a little from the story and focus on an important component of the game: graphics. The developers promised to significantly improve this component compared to the first part, but the landscape that opened was not surprising at all - it is still the same slightly angular Risen with slightly modified elements of individual details of the surrounding landscape. But let’s not get upset about this for now, since all the games from the Piranha Bytes studio are famous not for their mesmerizing artistic landscapes, but for their huge worlds, worked out to the smallest detail and a powerful role-playing component that completely immerses players in the process of completing the project.

Climbing onto the tower, the character found Carlos watching the approaching ship through a spyglass. To interact with characters and the environment, as in the previous part of the game (and in projects in the Gothic series), you need to press the left mouse button. The commandant expressed his concern for the fate of the ship and handed him the pipe to watch his unenviable fate - to be torn to pieces by a sea monster.

Carlos responded to the call to help people in distress by refusing to send the ship and suggested that the hero look on the shore for surviving crew members from the sinking ship.

Going down to the gate, the character found the messenger Juan standing guard over it, who advised him to return to the room and arm himself properly. Returning to his bedchamber, our courageous inquisitor did all the necessary preparatory work, arming himself with an officer's sword and prudently grabbing gold and supplies.

Coming ashore, the hero discovered his old friend Patty, the daughter of the famous pirate captain Steelbeard. She was kept company by sand devils, whom she fought off furiously.

Drawing his sword, he hurried to help his old friend. Now it’s worth describing an important element game mechanics- hand-to-hand combat. It consists of attack (left mouse button) and defense (right mouse button). By pressing the left mouse button several times, the player can create a simple combo attack, which is an integral element modern games of this genre. But don’t be upset, because in the first part of the game, as you progressed, new skills of the main character in wielding edged weapons were revealed, significantly diversifying the arsenal of techniques. The result was exciting battles with enemies and monsters that were not reduced to monotonous clicking on opponents with one mouse button.

It is also worth noting an important innovation - the appearance firearms. The pistol is of an auxiliary nature and can be used by pressing the “e” key. It deals significant damage and is a great help in hand-to-hand combat.

Having fought off coastal monsters with the nameless one, Patty informed him that she had a message from her father for the Inquisition.

In a conversation with Commandant Carlos, she reported that a war had broken out among the pirates. Most of them sided with the titan Mara, the mistress of the sea Kraken, a monster that destroyed ships and coastal settlements of people. But there were also opponents to this union, including Steelbeard. He was expecting representatives of the Inquisition on the island of Tacarigua and wanted to give them information about the method of destroying the Kraken.

After listening to her story, Carlos promised to transport Patty and the protagonist by the fastest ship to the indicated island.

The next morning, leaving Patty to rest in her room, the hero went to meet with the commandant. In the courtyard he saw five recruits and their instructor Severin. After talking with the latter, he found out that the newcomers were being intensively prepared for some secret mission to the New World. Severin proposed a training match and the character unwisely agreed - during the short-term battle it turned out that he could not oppose anything to a more experienced fighter. The corporate style of Piranha Bytes is again visible - the game has to start from the “very bottom” and for the first few hours you need to carefully think through the strategy and tactics of moving around the world, as well as the development of the main character. After all, any miscalculation will mean a quick end to the game.

Having been hit in the head and looking around, our alter ego discovered an extremely limited location, which included walls, two gates, the commandant’s hall, a courtyard, a harbor with a ship and a prison. But, despite these “restrictions,” the location turned out to be full of characters and even small quests.

In addition to the ill-advised “training” with Severin, the hero learned his recent past literally from the nearest sentry. It turned out that he used to wear the eyepiece of Inquisitor Mendoza, but, like the latter, a magical object changed him. I had to sacrifice my eye to remove it. After this event, he began to “go crazy”, and in order not to completely go crazy, he entered into an unequal war with the green serpent.

In the large hall, the character found Commandant Carlos talking with the captain of the Black Betty ship, Sebastian. From this conversation, it became clear that outside the Caldera two titans are fighting among themselves, and when one of them wins, he will immediately attack the city. So as not to wait for this terrible day The Highest Council of the Inquisition decided to evacuate the last stronghold of people to the New World.

After the captain's departure, Carlos told about the purpose of the mission: upon arrival on Tacarigua, he needed to infiltrate Steelbeard's entourage and find out the secret of the weapon against the Kraken. To do this, you will have to work undercover, because if the pirates find out that the main character is a member of the Inquisition, they will immediately finish him off.

The thief Largo ended up in a local prison, who, after a fascinating conversation about the sights under the code name “everything that is bad,” taught the hero the first level of dexterity, which allows him to move silently, for 500 gold.

Before purchasing Risen 2: Dark Waters on PC, be sure to check the system requirements provided by the developer with your system configuration. Remember that minimum requirements often mean that with this configuration the game will launch and run stably on minimum settings quality. If your PC meets the recommended requirements, you can expect stable gameplay at high graphics settings. If you want to play at quality set to “ultra,” the hardware in your PC must be even better than the developers indicate in the recommended requirements.
